Do Work Son
Ever wonder how accurate the start bench list is? Well I was kinda bored and was wondering the same thing and decided to see how accurate the start/bench predicitions have been after 4 weeks. All the stats and top 5 players are according to the huddles player stats. So here it goes..... Week 1 Top QBS: Mcnabb(S1), Brees(S2), Cutler(S3), Rivers(S3), Rodgers(S3) Week 2 Top QBS: Cutler(S3),Rodgers(S2), Rivers(S2),Warner(S2),Romo(S2) Week 3 Top QBS: Griese(Bench), Farve(S2), Brees(S2),Rivers(S2),Orton(Bench) Week 4 Top QBS: Farve(S3),Warner(S2),Brees(S2), Schaub(Bench),Romo(S2) Week1 S1's: Mcnabb(1st),Warner(22nd),P. Manning(13th), Romo(9th) Week2 S1's:Peyton Manning(11th) Week3 S1's:Romo(15th), Cutler(6th) Week4 S1's:Cutler(8th) As you can see only 1 outta 8 S1 QBS finished in the top 5 in scoring. 11 (S2) QBS finished in the top 5. 5 (S3) QBS Finished in the top 5. 3 QBS that shoulda been benched scored in the top 5. Week 1 Top RBS: Turner(S2),Parker(S3),R Bush(S3), Barber(S2), Westbrook(S1) Week 2 Top RBS: Westbrook(S1),Barber(S2),Mcfadden(S3), Portis(S2), J Jones(S3) Week 3 Top RBS: R Brown(Bench), Turner(S1), R Bush(S2), M Lynch(S2), Jones Drew(S2) Week 4 Top RBS: L Johnson(S3), S Jax(S3), LT(S1), AP(S2), C Johnson(S3) Week 1 S1's: T Jones(10th), Westbrook(5th),Addai(48th),Gore(6th), LT(19th) Week 2 S1's: L Johnson(60th),Westbrook(1st),AP(10th),LT(49th) Week 3 S1's: F Gore(6th), Barber(7th),Turner(2nd), C Johnson(32) Week 4 S1's: F Gore(18th), LT(3rd),Lynch(22nd),Barber(37), Jones Drew(32), F Taylor(33) Wow, As you can see here. Only 4 outta 19 RBS finished in the top 5 in scoring for the S1 backs. 7 of the S3 backs finished in the top 5. 8 of the S2 backs finished in the top 5. 1 bench back finished as the top scorer in week 3. Week 1 top WRS: Royal(Bench) ,Ward(S2) R Moss(S2), H Baskett(Bench), TO(S1) Week 2 Top WRS: Boldin(S2), S Moss(S3), Calvin Johnson(S3), B Marshall(S2), TO(S2) Week 3 Top WRS: Marshall(S1), TJ(S3), B Lloyd(Bench), R White(S2), A Miles(Bench) Week 4 Top WRS: L Coles(S3), G Jennings(S2), L Moore(Bench), Muhammad(Bench), K Walter(Bench) Week 1 S1's: R Wayne(6th), Braylon(77th),TO(5th), Cal Johnson(17th),Roy Williams(16th), Boldin(33rd), Fitz(31st) Week 2 S1's: Plax(11th), R Wayne(8) Week 3 S1's:TO(82nd), Plax(45th), Marshall(1st) Week 4 S1's:TO(13th), Marshall(16th) 2 outta 14 finished in the top 5 in scoring thru 4 weeks. 7 S2's finished in the top 5. 3 S3's finished in the top 5. 7 Bench WRS finished in the top 5. So far it seems like S1 players have been very disapointing for having such (great matchups) so try not to get to excited when you see your player with an s1 next to his name. Also, I wouldnt get to stressed about an s2 or s3 ranking when it comes to your rb's. It seems like there having the most success so far this season when it comes to having a good game... And to see that there were 7(YES, 7!!!!) recievers that were supposed to be benched in your starting lineups that came out and had big weeks shows that you should just go with your gut when your asking yourself "Can I actually start this guy"? the answers YES! Look at week 4...3 possible week 3 FA/Waiver wire pickups could of possibly won you the league this week if you made the right moves. I know these stats dont apply to everybodys league but I hope this has given you some info you can use when it comes down to making tough decisions with startem or sitem situations that you might come across in the next comming weeks. isleseeya
Start / Bench list is a guide ...tries to provide information that allows you to make the decision In the end , it should always be up to the player to make the decision and not follow the start / bench list 100 percent ...if anyone is following it 100 percent without making their own decision , not sure why they are playing Fantasy football i can also add the start / bench list has helped me make more correct decisions than wrong ones over my years at the huddle

Gopher
I guess I have always thought of "S1" players as those who have little risk of being a "dud" that particular week, not necessarily a guarantee to be in the top five in scoring. There is always going to be players at every position that blow up, even though they were projected to not do much that week. I also think that this holds particularly true with wide receivers... thus my dropping M. Muhammed last week in about four leagues, only to have him lead the league in receiving this week. Whether it's the Start/Bench list, predictions/projections, or the sleeper defensive lists, you're looking at one person's opinion, for the most part. Take it for what it's worth. From my experience, they're generally right on some of the time, within the right ball park the majority of the time, and way off occasionally. Still, if you weigh in all of the factors, including the valuable information that can be obtained in these discussion forums, you can't really put a price on what this site is worth from a fantasy football perspective. Top-notch is an understatement. Personally, I usually read the majority of the articles every week, but make the majority of my decisions based on my own gut feelings, not on any one article or list. And, to be honest, the start/bench list has less of an impact on my decisions than most of the other things that I read on this site. If I am weighing the projected stats, the injury status, the game prediction, and other trends of a certain player, I really don't need to look at a list to decide if I should start him that week or not. However, if the start/bench list completely contradicts what I was already thinking about a certain player, it might catch my attention and give me reason to look at things a little more in-depth or from different angle before making my decision. Double Agent
I thought it was a good analysis too. The delivery could have been a little more subtle but the info was good.
Jackass
People get defensive when the huddle is challenged. A lot of time the posts are pretty inane. I did find some of this analysis interesting and i appreciate you putting it together. However, your tone in calling out the huddle was a little over the top and not necessary. I'm sure getting the calls on S1, S2, S3 are a lot harder than you think. How about you post your predictions on some games over the next couple weeks and we'll see how you do. Then we'll all have a benchmark to measure it against. If you do well enough, you can start your own web site and you won't need to come here anymore. isleseeya
agreeas it was the way it came off more than the substance none the less effort was made to provide info which is normally a good thing The Huddle loves a pile on ( i personally hate them ) but dont think this one deserves it Edited October 1, 2008 by isleseeya
Gopher
For what it's worth, I don't think it was his intention to mock or criticize the Huddle. I could be wrong, but I thought the ****WARNING*** part was a bit of sarcasm, more than a mockery. That said, a lot of times, things are interpretted not by what is written, but how it is delivered. SENDING A MESSAGE THAT IS BOLDED AND IN SUPER-SIZED FONT IS A GOOD WAY TO GET PEOPLE TO BE ON THE DEFENSIVE SIDE. IT MAKES IT SEEM AS THOUGH YOU ARE ATTACKING, EVEN THOUGH YOU MAY NOT BE. Edit: I forgot to underline my message.... Edited October 1, 2008 by Gopher

I just think that people rely on articles such as the start/bench list to set their lineups, then come on here and complain when they lose. I don't think that was your intent, just sayin', it gets old.
