Time to bench Andre Johnson?

I wouldn't give-up on Johnson, yet, particularly since Schaub showed some signs of life last week...having said that, though, I would lean towards benching him this week (against a very stout Indy pass defense) for Moore, who has a cherry match-up (although, you never quite know who is going to be Brees' favorite on any given week)...

Note: FYI, this is different than the previous advice I've given on Meachem today, because Moss has proven himself this year (even though he has a tough match-up on the road against Philly), and Johnson has not quite gotten it going so far (had Johnson's stats been his usual, I would have suggested you start him without hesitation)...

Am I overreacting or should I set Johnson down in favor of Lance Moore who has become the Saints #1 in the absence of Colston,Patten and Shockey.

I just traded for AJ (see very recent post) in hopes that I was buying low, so I would say maybe set Johnson down but be very quick to put him back in your lineup. I live in Houston, and AJ was a monster when he played last year (which was about half the year). This year, his first game was very good. In his second game he dropped two touchdown passes which I think was an anomaly - the guy has produced for several years, its not like he forgot how to catch. Last game (his third), he was blanketed by Jacksonville with a pro bowl corner and a safety covering him. I think Houston and Schaub proved that they do have other options in Slaton, Walter, and Daniels judging by their huge games and the fact Jacksonville couldn't stop Houston. I think defenses will be a little more hesitant to blanket Johnson quite so much and I look for Houston to make more of an attempt to get AJ the ball even if he receives extra defensive attention - he's that talented.

Wait until he has one of his big games and make a deal right afterwards. This week his matchup is not very good and if Moore is starting, I like Moore this week. AJ is still a solid WR and for the first time in his career, he voiced his frustration with the team. Maybe that will be a spark being that it's coming from someone who's normally quiet on such matters.

He's bound to post some good games and he will be worth much more after this first. then you make a trade for a more consistent player.
