How hard to you grip your golf clubs

I'm no pro by any means, but if you are anywhere near 5, you are doomed. Should be a relaxed grip...no ripping. The distance will come from contact and follow through.

solid answer

most swing pros will tell you +/- 5, depending on the type shot/swing

Are you a lefty or a righty? And where exactly does your hand hurt?

I'm guessing this is a fundamental grip (as in hand posture) issue more than grip pressure. I grip hard on a lot of shots (out or thick rough for example) and I never have my hands hurt. Maybe it's because I don't do it consistently. But if you have a certain area of your hand affected, I would have someone look at the way you grip your club.

It can happen to the best of us. My uncle is a 2 hci and began having grip issues last year. Don't know why we pick up bad habits in golf.
