Randall
This is from Darin Gantt's twitter Smith being hauled off on cart now. Will update later 27 minutes ago from UberTwitter Not sure if it's Smith's wrist or shoulder, but he doesnt appear happy about it. #Panthers 30 minutes ago from UberTwitter Steve Smith going to tent with trainer. Looking at right arm. The cart and the doc are back, but no 89. Sounds like shoulder, but no definitive word yet. #Panthers 6 minutes ago from UberTwitter

Bio Carolina Panthers beat writer, Rock Hill Herald (www.heraldonline.com). No further updates yet. I have added some athletes along the way but for the most part wanted to make sure I was getting beat writers and connected people. Finding the real guys is the hard part but if you find someone like Adam Schefter you can find a bunch of guys that you know are legit from who he follows and then check out who they follow to get more legit people....I don't know who all the main beat writers are for the 32 teams but if I did I surely would have them all on my follow list, especially during the preseason... I know we had a twitter thread around here so maybe we should revive it with our twitter nicks and the names of who we follow and categorize them or something like that fwiw, IDPSteve is my twitter nick

STL Fan
Xray shows no damage to shoulder but not known how long he will be out. X-Rays show basically only bone. The MRI will be the important test here if he has one.

Swampnuts
Darin Gant is one of the best local writers when it comes to the Panthers. He stays down in Spartanburg for the duration of camp and is a good source for info. Smitty better be ok!
Randall
Darin Gant is one of the best local writers when it comes to the Panthers. He stays down in Spartanburg for the duration of camp and is a good source for info. Smitty better be ok! Today from Gantt The fact that Panthers WR Steve Smith's X-rays were negative is good news, but it hardly means the Panthers are out of the woods. Now that the initial panic has subsided, it seems clear that Smith's going to miss the preseason, which shouldn't be that great of a concern. What should be is what happens when he comes back. Smith's game is played in the air. His best attribute is his ability to go up and get balls over cornerbacks and safeties. But as good as he is, he's never beaten gravity one-on-one. The landings are going to be watched more carefully when he gets back. And depending on the severity of the injury, his ability to reach around people to get those passes might be compromised as well. That's a huge problem for the Panthers on multiple fronts. Without a healthy Smith, there's not as much reason for opponents to honor the deep ball. Without that deterrent, it makes it harder to run, no matter who the backs are or how good the offensive line is. For the moment, the onus will be on Dwayne Jarrett to make more plays. We know what veteran Muhsin Muhammad can do, though you can't expect him to replicate his 2004 sans Smith campaign at age 36. Behind them, you have the indistinguishable lot of Ryne Robinson, Kenny Moore, Jason Carter et. al. Throw them in a sack. Pull one out. Doesn't really matter which. We should find out more today on the specifics of the injury. And unless an MRI reveals serious damage, he should be back. After all, he looked like he was dead last year in the preseason with an injury to the same shoulder, but came back to have a pretty good year. Stay tuned.
