TimC
And this year I'll be teaching American History I from the Indians point of view, from savages to casinos. I'll bet that class is mucho politically correct nowadays as opposed to when we were in school and got to laugh because them injuns (feathers not dot) sold Manhattan for $2.43 worth of beads and shiny trinkets. See how dumb they were, class??? That's why we killed them all! Edited September 1, 2009 by TimC

Egret
I report back tomorrow. Students come back the day after Labor Day. Michigan changed the law a few years ago and all schools now start after Labor Day. Thanks for the well wishes. I'm looking forward to year ten. That's the way to raise the population out of unemployment, Michigan!! Less education, not more. Does the auto union and the teachers union share the same president? Seriously though, I've read many of your posts on teaching and I give you praise! Keep doing what your doing, I hope there are more good ones out there like you! Less education, not more.Without knowing the number of actual days of schools kids are required to attend, you can't really say if it's actually less eduation. It doesn't matter specifically when school starts or ends, only the number of school days in between.

The tourist industry does not want school to start until after Laboy Day in the north.

Kings Dominion doesn't want to lose their teenage staff before Labor Day so the schools in the area don't start until after Labor Day. I lived in the county that KD was in....now I'm on the other side of Richmond and they started like 2 weeks ago.
wiegie
same notes each year, why should they change a good thing? Exactly. The best thing is that for two of my classes I put all of the lectures into powerpoint last semester. So now all I have to do is go into the room and click some buttons and I am good to go. (And the second best thing about using powerpoint is that the administration is happy that I am using "technology" in the classroom.)
