ADP Owners - Do you grab Chester this year?

Yes. Especially in his case for 2 reason. The obvious one is that he is the #1 pick overall, and in general, with RB's, you should try and grab his backup if you pick an RB as your #1 pick. The other reason is that if ADP goes down, there is no RBBC like there is on many other teams. Chester Taylor will step right in, he'd be a starter on many NFL teams, so he will produce behind that solid O-line, and while Chester Taylor is no Adrian Peterson, the impact from a fantasy perspective won't be huge.

I'd grab him even if I was not a Peterson owner in a PPR league. He's a nice late emergency bye week filler and could put up mad points if AD goes down.

This is my take on this too... I took Chester in Ladder just because he was there late. Great bye week/injury replacement. And like he said, if AP misses even a game, Chester should be money.

IMO it depends. I never reach for a handcuff. If he's there and I feel like he's the best value for my team, I will take him on his own merits.

I am more likely to draft for a home run sleeper than for a handcuff.

I agree with this, and this is my rationale, if AP goes down, I don't care what people say, Chester is no AP, therefore my team took a big hit regardless. He can produce solid #s but not 1.1 numbers. I rather go with a someone with tremendous upside and may start by mid season (James Davis, Jamaal Charles, etc), this way you can even develop a RB2/3 which insures your entire core of RBs.

Last year, I handcuffed in almost all my leagues and it turned out to torch me.

ETA: I guess, Chester is never "good" value to handcuff because people take him too early IMO. You would have to reach as an AP owner to handcuff so in return you really are paying ALOT to take this guy (1.1 and a reach pick).

Chester Taylor will outscore 9 out of 10 guys you would draft in the 12th round if Peterson DOESN'T go down. And the fact that he would probably post top 10 RB numbers in your #1 RB goes down is well worth drafting him. Not drafting him becasue you think you can get better value in the 12th round is nonsense. With all due respect.

Not really, huddle has him in the 140's, so basically a 12th round pick in a 12 team league.

12th round is a good place to get him but in my drafts he went 10 (2 times). I won't reach that big to get him 9 or 10.

And I don't think Taylor is going to score well while AP is healthy. I would not want him as my bye week filler.

I wouldn't go out of my way to get him. He's not much different than any other handcuff for a first round guy - I certainly wouldn't bypass another RB who could take off independent of injury (e.g., James Davis) to get him.

Problem with this sort of thing these days is that other owners are more than happy to take these handcuff guys a lot earlier than they should - I'm not going to blow a solid middle round pick just to make sure that I'm covered in the event of an injury. Late round? Sure - but you can't get a guy like Taylor in the late rounds (compare him to say, Kevin Jones, who is Forte's handcuff).

of the listed players - I would only take F. Jackson, L Washington, J Charles and maybe James Davis over Chester. This is not to say that I'd pick Chester if the above were on the board - but that I'd let most of them go before pulling the trigger on Chester.

First off..... look at the one year in Chester's career where he was the feature back..... numbers were pretty impressive.... When I look at the other guys on this list.... unless someone gets hurt, I don't think any of these guys will score more fantasy points then Chester this year. Chester is a great 3rd down back and in my opinion would start on about 15 NFL teams right now. I once waited an extra round to take Larry Johnson back in the day when Priest was the man.... I finished 2nd that year..... to the guy who took Larry Johnson... won't make that mistake again.

Exactly

I am more likely to draft for a home run sleeper than for a handcuff.

That's another reason to grab him. The odds of Peterson getting hurt and missing significant time (meaning Taylor is money) are greater than the odds of most other schlep RBs doing similar that are avail at the time.

Most handcuffs are pretty stupid ie drafting a guy because of hoping the other handcuff guy will bust or get hurt or whatever. This is one big exception. Peterson tends to get nicked up and so something more could easily occur, the team is set up for the starting RB to do well, and Taylor has proven he can do so many times. Probably the worst case will be he puts up solid RB3 or 4 numbers.
