gbpfan1231
So one morning I have my 55 inch plasma on and no issues. I go upstairs and when I come back down there is no picture but there is sound. I end up having the place I bought it from come pick it up because I bought the extended warranty. Flash forward to today - they have had my TV for over 50 days and all they have told me is that they need a part from Hitachi and the part needs to be manufactured and they have no estimate of when that will happen. Needless to say I am upset - I am supposed to get a call from the warranty company tomorrow for a final action plan but I am guessing I will not like the outcome. The TV is 3 years old and I paid a bit over 3k for it back then. I keep hearing that if they replace it I will get a "comparable" TV - what does that mean? I did a search on the internet and found one place that still has my exact model and it sells for $2,509.00. I printed that out and in my mind that is what I better get in return - nothing is more comparable than what I actually did have. Anyone go through something similar - do I have any options? I have already told the people at the place I bought it from that if I don't like the outcome that I demand a face to face with the owner (this is a local store not a Best Buy). I am prepared to let him know that he will lose business if he does not satisfy me. I will go out of my way to give him horrible pub. I will go to the store and tell each customer that is looking at TV's what this business has done with my service and try to drive them out of the store. Anyone know if this is illegal? I have a feeling that I will be bending over and grabbing my ankles tomorrow when the warranty company calls.

If you don't get what you want tell them you will report them to the Better Business Bureau.

buddahj
i had a issue with best buy many years ago. i bought a stero receiver + ext. warranty. it broke & they were unable to get the part to fix it. they kept it for 2-3 months before i finally got fed up, went to the store & ripped the s/m a new one. as someone who's worked in retail since 16, it wasn't something i was proud of. even today...it always seems that if you get loud/rude you get what you want. i see it all the time. anyways, it said in the warranty paperwork that if it couldn't be fixed...it would be replaced with something equal. they let me pick something else out & this time i didn't buy the warranty. i've had this stero receiver for over 13 yrs now with no problems. my opinion on warranties are that they aren't worth the paper their printed on. it's too much of a headache to fight to get what you deserve. good luck. cdrudge
Both my sister and father have had claims on extended warranties. One was at Circuit City and one was at Best Buy, but both were for shelf stereo systems. In both cases the item either was repaired 3 times and the problem wasn't fixed, and the store gave them full purchase price as a store credit to purchase a new system. YMMV. MrTed46
I started getting all my warranties from squaretrade.com recently. I have read nothing but good things on them.

gbpfan1231
Well it is almost 1:00PM here and no call yet. I was thinking that if I am the customer service rep here at Van Vreedes (the local store I have been dealing with) and I promised my customer that the warranty company would call me at the latest on Thursday that maybe I would call the customer to see if they have called yet and give the opportunity to call the warranty company and make sure they do what was promised. There is still time so I doubt anything will happen today. I was also thinking that with the help of people in this forum maybe we could start some sort of topic here that just rips on this Van Vreedes place (I guess this topic would be a good start) and if we could get this topic a few pages long I could bring it in to the store to show the bad pub they are getting. All I ask is that they satisfy me by making me basically even with what I had - if they don't do that I am betting they will lose more than 3k worth of business. Anyone know how much a billboard costs?
Kid Cid
I am famous for flying off the handle over things like this. Unfortunately, that's usually not the best course of action. The first thing you have to understand is whether the local store is on the hook for the relapcement or the warranty company. If you start applying pressure to the local store too soon you may just piss them off for no good reason. Now, thatbeing said, you most certainly can give them a call and get in their grill over not responding to you when they said they would. Don't draw too hard of a line in the sand over the TV itself either. You can get a whole lot more TV for the same $$$ today than you could three years ago. So if they want to give you 100% purchace price, take that and smile at your new larger TV.

Anyone know how much a billboard costs? That would be difficult since they are only in Green Bay and the valley, and not many Huddlers are there. Billboard rates vary depending on location. Look at $1000-$2000 a month.
Pope Flick
Cripes dude, make this work for you. You're heading into Black Friday. You've waited long enough. They can easily hook you up with a better TV for less than the amount you paid 3 years ago. Make that your goal and push these guys towards that. Get a 52" 120HZ outta them this week and you'll be so much further ahead than waiting this out for a "to the letter" resolution based on your agreements/wrranty. I'll bet in the fine print it doesn't go your way if the manufacturer cannot do anything.

I am with you here - I am just worried that I am going to get some answer like "your TV is 3 years old and the value is $500 so here is a voucher for $500. All I want is a TV that is comparable in size and is at least as nice as mine. Now if I can get them to give me a voucher for the $2,500 that my actually TV is going for then I would take it in a second - I don't think this is going to happen. Also - I did just get a phone call from Van Vreedes about an hour ago and the warranty company did agree to give me a new TV and they will be contacting me in 3-5 days to let me know what they will try to replace it with. Pope Flick
Again - I wouldn't get hung up on the $ you may or may not get. Get a new TV out of this. It's the best week of the year to say "give me this which I see at the store and we can all forget about this. By the way you can comp me the extended warranty for my 2 months hassle." TimC
Walk in, grab the TV you want and explain to them you are making an even exchange and walk out. Then run.

Then run. While running with a 55" plasma is probably a whole lot easier then running with a 55" rear projection CRT...it's still pretty awkward. I would suggest either having a pickup truck ready and waiting by the front door, or just going for a projector. They are a helluva lot lighter.
