HDMI Question

I'm getting the boy a PS3 for Christmas, but I might have a problem: My TV only has two HDMI inputs and they're taken by my satellite receiver and DVD/home theater system. Do any of you AV cats have a recommendation for some sport of HDMI splitter/hub to solve this problem?

'Splain, please.

you ever have a component where you could plug another components power cord into the back of it and then just plug one power cord into the wall,...well sorta the same thing here...he is saying you should be able to plug your PS3 into your HD Home Theater recvr instead of going directly to the TV...that is assuming your HD Home Theater recvr has an HDMI port to plug into which is should

if your receiver has an HDMI out, then it probably has another HDMI in. if you're running HDMI directly from your DVD player...well, personally I would just get rid of the DVD player and use the ps3. or run component from the DVD player.

This.

The PS3 already has a Blu Ray so you no longer need the HDMI going into the other DVD player. Blu Ray will play non-Blu Ray discs so there is no need for the extra DVD. If you want to keep both the DVD and the PS3, eliminate the HDMI to the DVD and use it for the PS3 and use a component for the other DVD player.

the PS3 should have one of the HDMI inputs over any of the other for the time being due to the lossless audio that most Blu-ray movies support....let alone superior audio quality for games...

but the long-term solution would be to buy an HDMI switcher....monoprice has them for cheap...

You do not want to connect a ps3 using component because it seems like a waste. It is one of the true devices that can take advantage of the hdmi cable. I would rather switch my cable/satellite to component and put the ps3 on hdmi. Satellie transmits in 720p/1080i which component can handle no problem and they only have 5.1 audio which can be achieved with a digital cable or optical cable.

With all this you now need a real receiver (Yamaha is the best) and get you some kick ass speakers (again Yamaha) You can plug all those HDMI cables into your receiver and then go from Receiver to TV with only one HDMI cable. And don't be too cheap on the receiver. Yamaha is by far the best for the money and you can get one cheap right now...time for you to go surround sound bro with that Blu ray PS3

No, I just think Sony has gone downhill. Yamaha has some really good stuff and has come down in price the last 5 years.

Do not under any circumstances listen to this man when it comes to audio/HT gear. While Yamaha does make some good equipment (until I went to separates I had a Yamaha HT receiver) it may or may not be the best for your application or your ears.

Yamaha speakers are...well...ok. I wouldn't call them the best. Personally I think that there are other brands out there that offer more bang for the buck. Both the receivers and the speakers have a brightness to them. Which means that over time they can induce listening fatigue to someone that is doing any type of critical listening. When they are paired together this can be quite noticable. As with all my HT and audio recommendations, I would suggest anyone in the market to spend some time listening to different combinations of gear to find the stuff that will be best suited for their application, ears and price.
