FWmaker
After watching these shows over a number of seasons, I see an inconsistency. A few times on Top Chef, Chopped, Hell's Kitchen, and, I think, one other, Chefs were chastised for tasting the food and returning that utensil back into the pot, etc. However, a number of times on Iron Chef America, I've seen Chefs or Sous Chefs do that very same thing without anyone commenting on the process. Why? I don't friggin know. But this inconsistency bothers me!

Why? I don't friggin know. But this inconsistency bothers me! It's funny, I just saw the same thing last night on Iron Chef and wondered about it too, especially since someone lost on the Chopped episode I saw earlier this week for that very reason. My personal belief is that there are no negative effects from doing this (re: Mythbusters episode on double dipping), however there are psychological ones for some people. It's not a hard thing to do to use a clean spoon if you've tasted.
