It was the other guy from Longview on the Redskins...a rookie LB... Maybe the most notable Texas football player from Longview would have to be James Street, cool calm captain of the Texas wishbone in the late 60's. Bigtime game against Arkansas that even Pres. Nixon was in attendence for, and then later went on to beat Notre Dame for the Championship with late 4th Q heroics in the Cotton Bowl. Too bad his son Houston Street didn't play baseball at Longview, we might actually woulda had a decent baseball team for once. Larry Centers and Jeremiah Trotter also went to Longview but moved to Tatum for their Junior and Senior Years... Last night Longview won and will play Austin Lake Travis for the 2nd straight year for State 4A football championship...we had 3 players rush for over 100 yds each again.
