Ursa Majoris
Apart from the legendary emptiness at Jacksonville, both Cleveland on Thursday and Oakland today have played in front of near-empty stadiums. I am pretty sure that NFL teams (except the Bears) report number of tickets distributed (not necessarily bought) as opposed to bums on seats. Those figures don't reflect anywhere close to the reality we see on our screens. Anyone bear witness to poor attendance in terms of no-shows in other stadiums besides these three? That level of empty seats has to be really worrisome for the NFL and the owners.
buddahj
with the prices of tickets, food & drinks...you have to take out a 2nd mortgage to be able to go to a game anymore.
bpwallace49
Arent most of those tickets sold though? Through season ticket owners that just dont show up? I was very close to buying tickets for the Packers/bears game today when they went below face value by fans that just dont care anymore . . . I dont think single ticket sales are the problem, it is the residual through parking/concessions, etc until season ticket sales lag (which has already started in Jax)
ts
... That level of empty seats has to be really worrisome for the NFL and the owners. Maybe in an effort to reach more fans, the league could start their "own" TV network ... to keep costs down, they could use high-school AV Club level production values, and maybe air the games at night, mid-week ... and frequently "feature" some of the not-so-marquee teams in those games. They could even make a lot of the fans pay for watching the mid-week games, even if just as a pass-thru cost via most cable channels. Oh, wait, what was the question?
