muck
We have a $30 million (ish) youth soccer complex here ... When I was a kid, we played soccer in gravel pits and LIKED IT.
Perchoutofwater
$60 Million doesn't get you what it used to, particularly when you consider all the local, state, and federal government require these days. All new stadiums have to have elevators per ADA. You have to have accessible restrooms and concessions which make each larger than they really need to be. You have to have concrete ramps for the slightest changes in elevation. Other cost factors that make stadiums much more expensive than just a few years ago are landscape ordinances, and land. You need a lot more land, because the tree huggers (yes we even have them here) require that you now have a tree for every 20 spaces (that is my local ordinance it varies from town to town). This of course increases the irrigation requirements. It also means that you need about 15% to 20% more land for the same parking lot you build ten years ago. Also now all the new stadiums are going to artificial turf grass which on the low end stars at about $1 Million on the low in and will go as high as $2 Million for the good stuff. Now this is a lot more expensive than natural grass on the front end, but it is estimated that the low end fields will pay for themselves in less than 10 years in Texas due the savings in water and maintenance. On the flip side a facility like this is sure to have a full slate of playoff games. It think the location typically gets half the gate, and all the concession. The stadium seats 18,000. You figure you average 15,000 for each play off game. A facility like that will get 4 games a week for 4 weeks of playoffs. You figure between gate and concession each seat spends an average of $20. Based on that playoff games alone will pay for the stadium in the 13th year, which is a hell of a lot faster than most people pay off their houses. millerx
Very cool! My nephew lives in Allen, Tx and will be entering the High School next year. He was the starting QB for the 8th grade "A" team last year and has been awarded the starting QB spot for the summer flag football team (their off-season program, which would lead into the coming fall season as a freshman). They have so many kids that attend schools in Allen that they have full squad "A" and "B" teams. So hopefully, with a little luck, his hard work and natural talent, my family will be able to see him continue his success out in this stadium.
