“The public view of the economy is at odds with the facts, and the blame has to go to the Democrats,” said J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., a Des Moines, Iowa-based firm that conducted the nationwide survey. “It does not matter much if you make change, if you do not communicate change.”

This. Their communication has been completely horrible. That cretin Pelosi and her unbelievably arrogant and condescending "we have to pass it so that you can see what's in it" should take much of the blame, along with the Republican lies machine.

Both sides are working together to equally piss us off.

I'll go further - one of Obama's major talents is his ability to connect with people. He hasn't spent enough time continuing that post-election, leaving a vacuum that has been filled by idiots and liars. Therefore part of the blame for poor communication is his too.

Indeed. He's come on in the last week or so, but I think it will be too little too late.

I didn't read the article, but I'd bet the reason most people think the economy is worse than it is would be because of the jobless rate. When 1 in 10 are looking for work most people will know someone subsisting on unemployment and/or food stamps, even if they themselves are not. That's going to skew the numbers right there. And if you're having trouble holding onto your house/cars/whatever, or know people in that situation, you're not likely to have a good opinion of the economy.

I think the reality is that a lot of votes are still unemployed and their friends are unemployed or losing homes. GDP ticking up 2% isn't going to get anyone excited until jobs start coming back.

I think they are in for a long wait, regardless of who is in the Whitehouse or controls the Hill.

You have got to be f'n kidding me.

Ronald Reagan said there's a secret to being a great performer: Leave the stage when the audience is still clamoring for more, so people look forward to seeing you again. Reagan, a former TV and movie actor, knew all about stagecraft, and he seemed to be giving good advice about the dangers of overexposure.

But Barack Obama has a different idea.

Over the span of a week, he addressed two town-hall meetings in California, appeared on NBC's Tonight Show With Jay Leno ( the first late-night talk show appearance by an incumbent president), hosted ESPN at the White House to discuss the NCAA basketball tournament, gave an interview to CBS's 60 Minutes, and held a prime-time news conference carried live by all the major television networks. All this was on top of a seemingly endless stream of presidential statements, speeches, and news media Q&As designed to promote his economic plan and show that he is pushing relentlessly for change.

And this was from April 2, 2009

Now add The View, Jon Stewart, etc, etc.

He's communicated his message well and often, well-informed votes just don't like it!

You're losing it.

I think it is the height of arrogance that this administration and it's followers think that the reason people are against Obama's big government agenda is because he and they have failed to adequately express it. We know what it is, and we know the potential outcomes it will produce. Maybe they should stop and consider that it isn't that we don't understand it, but rather we understand it all to well, and we do not want this kind of expansion in government. That we want the freedom to do what we want to do rather than be told what to do, that we want to keep more of our money rather than have it be given to someone else involuntarily.

yeah, the economy's great, and the poor dumb rubes just can't see it! we just need to communicate it more to them. they don't appreciate that dollar-a-day tax cut we gave them, the dumb arseholes instead just concentrate on that $43,000 of debt per person we've been racking up at their expense. that $500 billion in new taxes in obamacare? those don't count, those are just for "the rich", and it's all deferred until later anyhow. all of the payback for our spending -- which has bought us one of the most putrid "recoveries" on record -- is "deferred" until later, that means it doesn't count. those dumb f*cking morons who are contemplating how their taxes might inevitably go up to pay for it are just totally missing the point -- just cause we maxed out the card doesn't mean they need to worry about paying it off. and furthermore, they don't appreciate how we saved the economy by bailing out companies that ruined the economy. what we have here is just a failure to communicate!

Yes, its a shame the middle class got a tax break, TARP is getting paid back, and the economy is expanding. Oh, the government oppression is killing me.

What tax break? Tarp was actually under Bush, and based on this the spending there may not be over. While certain sectors of the economy are expanding others are still shrinking and the expansion isn't enough to keep up with unemployment.

Hogwash.

This presidency has lacked the ability to implement it's agenda. Why? Obstruction from the right, the mess he inhereted and big business deciding to make the people pay for it's 2008 vote. That's what my 7 year old wants, the freedom to do what she wants rather than be told what to do. You want to keep driving your f*cking Lexus while other Americans die because they can't afford medical care. You want companies to have the freedom to f*ck up the air and the oceans in order to boost their profit margins. You don't know the outcomes an Obama Administration would produce. Nobody does because all the right has done is obstruct. You want to rail against some arrogant adminstration while at the same time claiming you've got it all figured out.

You are full of $hit.

That's going to leave a mark.

WV and Jimmy had good counterpoints, but do you the rest of you guys realize how pathetic and trivial some of you come off when you can't acknowledge positive economic news and the fact that our economy is improving, and likely averted a depression, under Obama's policies? The public sentiment in that survey was at odds with reality, that's a fact no matter how much Az and Perch change the argument because they obsessed with our country and our president failing.

Look...that is all they have left. They had their one shot at true control and it is OVER. Implying that we just are too stupid to understand how great things are when things are actually WAY WORSE THAN WHEN BUSH(UNEMPLOYMENT AND DEFECIT) was president is one of the reasons theya re going to get blasted on Tuesday. We can only hope that they maintain this strategy all the way to 2012. That way the cleansing will be complete and thorough.

Right, lets go back to the Bush era failed policies that got us where we were when Obama took over.

Tax cuts for the rich and no regulation really did wonders for the economy as we saw the Dow tank at the end of the Bush era.

The dems had a super majority the could do what ever they want. This obstructionist cry that you and others do is nothing but a talking point from the left, and a very weak one at that.

Bush did plenty wrong. What does that have to do with how the dems have royally screwed up since? BTW Tax cuts for the rich? I thought everyone got a tax cut, and actually the lowest tax bracket go the biggest cut. So again someone on the left swallowing a very poor dem talking point hook line and sinker.

Why don't we look at Freddie and Fannie the largest bailouts, and IMO one of the largest reasons for the housing bubble. It was policies from both parties that enabled them, though one party sure stands out more than the other. Let you guess which one that is.
