My Daughters audition in Chicago

We had the callbacks yesterday and they were very promising yet had some tough issues to get around. 2 of the agencies that really loved her where from L.A. The one agent said he would sign her immediately. The catch is that we would have to move to L.A or he cant do it. This guy absolutely loved her. The problem is , a very large percentage of TV /Film is done in L.A. It was great news as far as a decision making agent recognizing my kids talent and his willingness to sign her but packing up and moving to L.A just isnt feasable although I really do not like living in NJ and my company does have an office in L.A  but it just doesnt seem in the cards

2nd LA agency had some representation in NY which was a little more promising but they were a management company and not an agent . We had a big seminar while down here with just the parents only and a big agent from LA and he said you really want an agent over a manager and gave carious reasons why. This woman did say she was going to contact us though and put us in touch with her NY people. We will certainly go see them when they contact us.

So my wife and I were feeling good about the recognition of her talent but a little bummed that the move to L.A is a major road block . My brother in law lives in Brentwood (not the OJ brentwood another brentwood) which is only 20 minutes away from L.A . If we ever did go out there we would probably go in his development. Very inexpensive and really nice and a great area but that is getting way ahead of ourselves. Anyway we have our 3rd and final callback with a guy named Shadow Holden of MTV. This guy was a really great guy who spoke at a few of the workshops. He isnt an agent but owns a production company and was also down there as a scout for agencies he is affiliated with. The night before during the open calls where you can just go up to any of the agents my wife spoke with him for about 10 minutes. He told her that Raffys monologue was the highlight of the show for him. He said he couldnt believe she was only 9 and also couldnt believe that she made up the 2 skits in the monologue which she did. He told my wife he would talk to her more during the callbacks. If you watch her video, he is the guy in the lower left corner whose head goes down in laughter when she does the grandma doing Saturday night fever.

So we sit down with him yesterday and this guy was just awesome. He was very laid back, down to earth and complimentary. He said my kid was an old soul and that knocked my wife off her feet because we always say that about her. He looked her right in the eyes and just gave her great positive feedback. He then gave us our best news of the day. He was there to scout for a major agency that is based in NY. This agency has a youth division and they are a major player for kids commercials, commercial print as well as TV/ film but they operate out of NY which is absolutely ideal. He was there to scout for the owner for that division and he said Raf was exactly what the owner asked him to go find and he felt very very confident that when we meet with this woman she will want to sign raffy. I have to email him this week and he will set us up with them and we will most likely be meeting with them as early as this week or next week. I will keep you posted and thanks again for all you kind words. I read them to her and it makes her smile. She is also very interested in any comments made on her youtube video so if any of you want to send her a message on there she would love it. Thanks again all !

Today she had her first audition since that showcase in Chicago. It was for a feature film. She would play a 9 year old girl that ends up being a flashback in a romantic comedy about a 17 year old couple that have been friends since they were kids. So my wife and I drive her to the audition about 40 mins from our house. We didnt know what they were going to ask her to do , cold read, monologue , script so my wife comes up with the idea. She says when you are introducing yourself to these poeple tell them you do some stand up comedy. We were hoping this would make them ask her to do some and she could break out Saturday Night Fever grandma. The kid may be tired of doing it  but when people see it that have never seen it before it absolutly kills. She agrees

We get there and we are handed a monolgoue. She will be getting her turn in about 40 mins. She reads the monologue and gets familiar with it and starts acting it out and we realize she has that down pretty good but still want to crowbar her comedy routine in their if we can. So fast forward to her number getting called. I stay in one room and she goes with my wife itno a room about 3 rooms away and is going to get her turn soon. She is # 87 and they were up to 81. Im sitting there for about 15 minutes and all of a sudden I hear a roar of laughter from the other room right through the walls. I know in my bones that this was for her and she did the grandma routine. about 10 minutes later she comes back in the room smiling and runs to me to hug me. My wife follows her wide eyed and says hurry lets get to the car and gives me the thumbs up.

She killed. The casting director was holding the auditions. She asked my wife after Raffy got started what movies she has been in and my wife said none. Then she asked about acting lessons and my wife said none. She said I can not believe this kid hasnt been in anything and she belongs in the movies. She said she was a natural and that she is giving her an immediate call back. She confided to my wife that it was the only call back given out of the day and the director of the film was flying in from L.A next week and she wants us to bring her to meet him as soon as he arrives. I believe they already have the 17 year old version actress cast already . My wife said the casting director took the actresses picture out and showed it to her assistant and said look at this just look at this picture and look at this kid in front of us.They are a perfect match and that Raf has the personality to boot.

It honestly couldnt have gone better. They are supposed to call me when the director arrives in NY. The beauty of this as well is if she gets it it shoots in the summer and her part will be fully shot in NY..No L.A, and no school interference. It isnt in the bag but today couldnt have gone better. It would be in theatres but low budget. We could care less. If I see her on screen I may pass out  anyway Ill keep you all posted and just keep your fingers crossed for my little girl. Thanks
