Nice gentle afternoon here.

Wife has a major migraine and is asleep in the bedroom.

Son in his room surfing for porn playing games on his computer.

I am surfing for porn working on the game predictions for the week.

Suddenly the entire house is SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

We have a security system that was here when we bought the house but since I never go anywhere we never paid for it.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I find the phone number on the alarm box and call that to get a rather bored young lady with ADT who says to disconnect the power to it.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Wife shows up crying in pain from the incredible shrill noise during her migraine. Hurts too much to cuss at me but I know she wants to.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Disconnect the power to the alarm system. Nothing. Son shows up and yells "THIS IS GIVING ME A HEADACHE!". College bound my ass.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Phone lady tells me to go to other end of house and see what panel lights are still on alarm.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Wife shows up again in tears - "MAKE IT STOP!". Thanks for that sweetheart. I"M TRYING!!!!

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

No lights on panel, phone lady says "not my problem then". Does say we must have all the smoke alarms wired together so kill house power.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Son pulls out car while I throw every breaker switch off.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Wife at doorway "MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP!". I run to room, dump tub of shooting gear on floor and then grab my hearing protection ear muffs and throw them at her.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Plan #3, son and I pull huge ladder out of garage while throwing, spilling stuff on my jeep next to it. Bring in ladder through front door while german shepherd is freaking out and making me trip with the ladder.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Son clambers up ladder and failing to get smoke alarm to gently twist off, bangs it with fist and rips it off ceiling. It makes this death noise and goes silent unlike the other alarms in house.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM! ALERT! ALERT!

Wife walks up, looks at me, thinks better of it and walks away while we shift to alarm #2 while instructing dog QUIT TRIPPING ME YOU COWARD! He responds by barking incessantly. Thanks man. Best friends!

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS! SCREAM!

second alarm down and silent after some "dying rabbit" screech.

SCREAMING ALARMS! ALARMS!

Third one dead

SCREAMING ALARMS!

Fourth one dead

SCREAMING ALARM...

Fifth one dead. Son removes the battery so no power to unit at all. It makes three beeps as the ghost in the machine loses paranormal energy.

Silence....

Ahhhh.....

I now have a pile of smoke alarms on my counter. Several others still on ceilings but at least quiet. Wife's migraine has kicked into overdrive. Now I have a splitting headache. Dog has disappeared. Son is back to surfing for porn playing some computer game.

I love the peace and calm of working at home.

sigh....

 Priceless!!

I had a similar problem when we installed a new smoke alarm in our house. They were originally all wired so that if one tripped, they all tripped. When the one failed (age of the smoke detector), we bought a new one and hooked that one up the same way. I was never able to successfully get them to stay quite once I turned the power back on to them (but at least I was able to find the circuit they were on - however I didn't have the distractions you did either).

I ended up reading the installation manual on the new one and it had a troubleshooting tip that if the smoke alarms tripped when wired together, then you could install them seperately. On ours they had a green wire, black wire, and red wire. The red wire was what linked them. All I did was leave the red wire unattached (per the manual), made sure I had the loose ends capped so they couldn't contact anything, and the problem was solved. Not sure if that would work for you but it's a thought.

Had a similar thing with some BRK smoke detectors that apparently had a defect a few years ago (when that house was built). I replaced every one of them and was smooth sailing from then on. My wife was pregnant at the time and this usually happened in the middle of the night (if that makes you feel better). Good luck.

Did you think to look for the fire?

Oh yeah, step one was checking for any smoke including up in the attic.

A lot of those alarms will go off for carbon monoxide as well. Maybe you are all slowly being posioned.

Well, good luck!

All of our alarms went off after a long power outage. Since I wasn't a subscriber to ADT anymore they walked me through the process to completely disable their entire system. I joked, "So, I guess I can start breaking into ADT houses now." :crickets: "Sir, that's not funny"

I have an ADT system that was installed in my house, however when I moved I didn't pay for service as I didn't have a home phone line and still don't. Had it for a year without issue, then one day it went off like you mention. I reset it, but it went off again a few minutes later. I called ADT and they said that if it loses phone line connectivity it will go off. I explained to them that I had no phone line for nearly a year. They weren't helpful at that point, so I unplugged and disconnected the battery. All is well now....
