Big Day in Sconny

Lost two seats but they are going to pick up at least one seat next Tuesday. Possibly two if the momentum sticks. Also, so you don't think this loss to take back the Senate doesn't take ALL of the air out of the Walker recall now? And on top of that, with the Budget actually WORKING, you think people are still going to recall him?

That recall is as dead as Elvis Presley.

the walker recall is probably dead, but I think bp has a point with this being the best outcome for the state. mostly because it takes wind out of the sails of this lame tactic. but isn't there one RINO who didn't vote for the budget bill who has made at least some noises about switching parties? if a guy like that can swing any vote either way, it forces them all to take a more concilliatory tack. the GOP already got through their big item, it's already starting to have good effects in some of the school districts...and in other news, jobs are coming back to the state. so it behooves walker and the GOP -- and the state as a whole -- to sit back and chill for a while, play somewhat nice and get some things done across the aisle, and let the national attention go somewhere else for a little while.

Yep and then get these two seats back in 2012.

there is a RINO but you don't read about it cause you are in Canada.

What good affects are you talking about in school districts? cutting services to students, teacher leaving to other states? pray tell oh wise one...

jebus you are a twit... jobs are coming back to the state.

walker will be recalled...... save it... they have not played across the isle in the past why are they going to now. this would have been avoided in march if they had listened to the unions but they did not. now they have gerrymandered the districts so that the tea party can own 54 district and the dems 40. shart is going to hit the fan even more.

Wow. You really don't know what you're talking about. What's scary is that you actually think you do.

Walker will be recalled...

You said that he wouldn't win the governorship...he did.

You said that the budget repair bill would never pass...it did.

You said Sloppy Kloppy would bury Prosser for the SC...she didn't.

You said, "just wait until the recall elections and you'll see"...yes, we saw the GOP stay in power most decisively.

What makes you think that anyone believes you or any socialist for that matter when you say Walker is going to be recalled? You've been beat down and back at every turn yet continue to pretend that your side is winning.

Sounds to me like you have finally been pushed over the edge into the land of make believe. The "tax and spend" gravy days are over, buddy. The sooner you realize it the better off you will be.

Good luck on your way back to reality.

The lower insurance costs for the schools? Not good? The ability to have a choice to pay your dues? not good? Merit based pay? Not good?

Let's not forget the pleasant surprise you'll see when you get your property taxes later on this year. But I'm sure that's not good either, right?

I agree that they probably should lay low for a while and let the fruits of the budget pay dividends for all of WI. Well, dividends for all of those who didn't rush thru contracts before the bill took effect.

Just remember, there are two Democrats up for recall next Tuesday and at least one of them will most likely lose his seat, giving the GOP another seat and only losing one (which was mostly expected since it was a blue district anyways) total.

This was just another kick in the teeth to the left who seem to mistakenly believe the majority of Wisconsinites are STILL behind them.

went from broke to a surplus, hiring back all the teachers who had to be laid off previously

In June, Wisconsin added 12,900 private-sector jobs, the state's largest one-month gain since September 2003.

Hey Az, remember a few short weeks ago when you said McBoog's point held more weight because he was in the govt. agency that was actually involved in the topic being discussed?

That was a really stupid post.

Then I will have to pay more attention to your posts that relate to homosexuals and trolls.

I'm providing the source for the comments I made. wisconsin has done well in the last couple jobs reports, and school districts in the state seem to be hiring teachers and fixing their budget woes. I am certain that at least the latter bit does come in some way at the expense of teachers and other public employees (by way of increased pension premiums and increased minimum hours requirements), but those were concessions they were going to have to make regardless. my point was that the GOP in the state ought not rock the boat for a while. let the things they've done work for a while, and see if the things they said would happen continue to happen.

Simac can't name a bill she supports or opposes

Republican Senate candidate Kim Simac stumbles on a question during a Tuesday night debate. It's usually tough work to stump a professional politician, especially one in the middle of a heated race.

It's even tougher to get a politician to admit they're stumped.

But Republican Senate candidate Kim Simac acknowledged during a public forum this week that she couldn't name a single bill in Madison that she looks forward to backing or opposing if she wins.

Simac is running against Democratic Sen. Jim Holperin in one of the two last recall elections next week.

"What specific legislation is moving through the Capitol right now that you look forward to - if elected - supporting or challenging?" asked the moderator during a forum on WRJO-FM (94.5) in Eagle River

After asking for the question to be read a second time, Simac then responded:

"Hmm, well, I think that . . . I guess I would have to say that with all of the things that I've been looking at, I think you just stumped me. All the things I've been looking at for all the last couple months here trying to get up on board as a new candidate, I've been trying to stay up with the issues, but I would have to say that I can't name you a single one right now."

She went on to say she has instead been spending her time talking with residents in her northern district trying to find out what they feel is important

Really? You have the best chance at beating a Democrat in a recall, and you have no idea what legislation is proposed or pending? This is slightly tougher than asking Sarah palin "What magazines and newspapers do you like to read." But come on . . .

This is like going in for a job interview and not knowing what the company makes. . . .

Does it really matter who the candidate is? I mean Cowles did nothing to deserve the recall attempt so what does it matter who is running?? This is about Walker not Simac or Holperin. These recalls are a joke.

Which has nothing to do with the fact that a candidate, during on on-air forum, has no idea what legislation is pending. Everyone gets that you think that recalls are the debbil.

And the recalls against Republicans were about eliminating collective bargaining after the fiscal concessions were already made.

The recalls against Democrats are because they left the state to slow the legislation and deny a quorum.

Unless you are saying that Walker is the embodiment of everything in the state, then no. They are not just about Walker.

Just found a flyer in one of my shrubs - it was about recalling Cowles except Walkers name was on it more than Cowles.

Spring election, recount

Sen. Jim Holperin (D-Conover) held onto his seat in Tuesday's recall vote in the 12th Senate District in northern Wisconsin.

Holperin, one of two Democratic senators facing recall elections Tuesday, was long considered the Democrat most likely to be ousted, but he held on to defeat Kim Simac, the tea party activist and riding school owner who had headed the effort to recall him in the first place.

Combined with the victory of Sen. Bob Wirch (D-Pleasant Prairie), Holperin's win means Democrats retain the two seats they gained in last week's six recall races in Republican-held districts.

Holperin's district was carried by Republican Gov. Scott Walker in November with 57.4% of the vote, and 10 of its 11 counties went for conservative Supreme Court Justice David Prosser in April.

But Mordecai Lee, political scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, said Holperin has been a moderate, or even conservative Democrat - for example touting his endorsement by the National Rifle Association.

Holperin has the distinction of being the only Wisconsin lawmaker to face a recall election twice. He survived a recall election stemming from Ojibwe spearfishing rights in 1990 when he was in the Assembly.

So both Dems won the recall attempts against them . . . hopefully we are done with this nonsense now.
