muck
Check this out ... as a team, compared to the rest of the teams in MLB: 2nd in hits 3rd in doubles 3rd in triples 10th in RBIs 2nd in SBs 4th in batting average 10th in OPS And consider how balanced our offensive attack is ... currently ... with 11 games to go: Five guys with 17-22 homers Five guys with 70-88 RBIs Four guys with 38-45 doubles Seven guys with 3+ triples Five guys with more than 470 at bats are hitting .283 to .303 Seven guys with 10+ stolen bases Five guys with more than 470 at bats with OPS from .791 to .876 ...and we have a ROY candidate (Eric Hosmer -- 17HRs / 70RBIs / .287 BA / .791 OPS)...while he'll probably lose to Ivan Nova (15-4, 3.81 ERA), he's had a great rookie campaign... ...but... There are NO pitchers on the roster with more than 65 innings pitched who also have an ERA of less than 4.00 ... and we are 29th in all of MLB in Earned Runs Allowed. If we can just get some pitching to pan out, there is a chance that some time in the next couple of years, we'll actually be able to make a play for the AL Central crown. I wonder if Greinke will come back when his contract is over?

I believe that the best prospects still down in the minors are position players, though (including the main guy in the Greinke trade). True. Escobar though, has been playing SS all year in the bigs, and he was part of that trade also. He looks like a guy who can stick for awhile. SLAYER
Royals unveil their 2012 line up tonight. Young and awesome talent. If their pitchers progress next year like the batters did this year, watch out 2013. forgot about Gordon, so who gets traded, Melky? muck
forgot about Gordon, so who gets traded, Melky? Hard to trade your highest batting average, 100+ runs scored, 200+ hits, etc... That said, I think you trade whomever it is that gets you your best pitcher. They're all on the table until a #1 pitcher shows up. IMO. *********** My personally preferred lineup for next year (after having traded Jeff Francouer or Billy Butler, as these two guys are the least flexible defensively (and Butler is slowwwwww, which doesn't fit in with the new Royals mantra of being faster and more aggressive on the bases): DH --- Billy Butler (.294 BA / .829 OPS / 72 Runs / 168 hits / 40 2Bs / 0 3Bs / 19 HRs / 90 RBIs / 1 SB / 572 ABs ... 25 yrs old) RF --- Jeff Francouer (.285 BA / .805 OPS / 75 Runs / 169 hits / 47 2Bs / 4 3Bs / 19 HRs / 85 RBIs / 22 SBs / 592 ABs ... 27 yrs old) So, the 2011 lineup looks like this (assuming Buter is the one traded ... and Francouer, Gordon and maybe ?? platoon in the OF and DH): LF/DH --- Alex Gordon (.303 BA / .879 OPS / 101 runs / 185 hits / 45 2Bs / 4 3Bs / 23 HRs / 87 RBIs / 17 SBs / 611 ABs ... 27 yrs old) CF/LF/RF --- Melky Cabrera (.305 BA / .805 OPS / 99 Runs / 196 hits / 43 2Bs / 5 3Bs / 18 HRs / 84 RBIs / 20 SBs / 643 ABs ... 27 yrs old) 1B --- Eric Hosmer (299 BA / .815 OPS / 64 Runs / 149 hits / 26 2Bs / 3 3Bs / 18 HRs / 75 RBIs / 11 SBs / 498 ABs ... 20 yr old rookie) RF/DH --- Jeff Francouer (.285 BA / .805 OPS / 75 Runs / 169 hits / 47 2Bs / 4 3Bs / 19 HRs / 85 RBIs / 22 SBs / 592 ABs ... 27 yrs old) C --- Salvatore Perez (.344 BA / .869 OPS / 17 Runs / 43 hits / 8 2Bs / 2 3Bs / 2 HRs / 15 RBI / 125 ABs... 33 games after being called up as a 21yr old rookie) 3B --- Mike Moustakas (.250 BA / .633 OPS / 24 Runs / 79 hits / 15 2Bs / 0 3Bs / 4 HRs / 29 RBIs / 1 SB / 316 ABs ... 23 yr old rookie) CF/LF/RF --- Lorenzo Cain (.312 / 16HRs / 81 RBIs in AAA ball this year; one of the best AAA prospects in all of baseball and the key part of the Greinke trade) SS --- Alcides Escobar (.250 BA / .620 OPS / 66 Runs / 132 hits / 20 2Bs / 8 3Bs / 3 HRs / 44 RBIs / 25 SBs / 529 ABs ... 24 yr old rookie) 2B --- Johnny Giovatella (.226 BA / .597 OPS / 17 Runs / 36 hits / 6 2Bs / 3 3Bs / 2 HRs / 20 RBIs / 4 SBs / 159 ABs ... 24 yr old rookie ... tough as nails and uber competitive) ...plus... I have no idea how quickly they'll try to move Bubba Starling along ... he was just drafted out of HS this past year; one of the best all-around athletes to come out in a VERY long time...he plays CF... SLAYER
Isn't Melky a FA, I think he only signed a 1 yr deal. If so they need to resign him perfect #2 in that line up. I think that they bat Cain lead off and drop Gordon down, he really isn't a leadoff guy, even though he thrived there this year. they are kicking ass tonight. Royals have rights to Melky next year I think. I think Cain may be on the chopping block. He's a prospect with potential, so he really has the most value. Butler is going nowhere. First off, he really has no value as a strictly DH. And he is the perfect DH IMO. Hits with power. Run producer, and still so young. As far as Gordon, leave him alone in the leadoff spot. He's a guy who has proven to not handle the pressure of being a run producer. He has speed, good OBP, hits with some power, and is a good baserunner. I love him in the leadoff spot. Puddy
I really like this team...like all the homers said it appears pitching is the glaring weakness. They can hit the hide off the ball. You've got Frenchy traded and still in KC RF. This will be a clever trick if your GM can bring it off. FWIW, I'd hang on to Frenchy.

FWIW, I'd hang on to Frenchy. No I don't. I said that he and Butler are the two least versatile defensive players, and Butler is the slowest offensive player. As a result, one of the two of them will go ... my guess is that either Butler or Cain is traded this offseason for "the best pitcher we can find". Chief Dick
Preferred lineup, post trade: LF --- Alex Gordon CF ---Lorenzo Cain 1B --- Eric Hosmer DH --- Billy Butler RF --- Jeff Francouer C --- Salvador Perez 3B --- Mike Moustakas SS --- Alcides Escobar 2B --- Johnny Giovatella I think this lineup is more realistic. Cain has some speed and historically a pretty good OBP, so he'll get you some steals and the ability to score from first base on doubles from the middle of that lineup. Butler will bat fourth: after Hosmer came up this is pretty much where he was, and Butler's a bit of a diva who may start pissing and moaning if he's dropped in the order. Plus, Yost has shown the propensity to keep guys in the same slots in the order, so I suspect some consistently from last year to next year, at least at the beginning of the season.
