Fred Davis - Chris Cooley

Recommended Posts

Is Fred Davis the guy to own there? What happened to Cooley?

Cooley has bum knees. I think Davis is clearly the back to own here. No Brainer IMO.

^Far from a no-brainer. Cooley may not be 100% yet, but he does not have bum knees according to all reports and Cooley himself. (Did you just make that up?). Buy low on Cooley and sell high on Davis.

This situation could evolve into a NE-like TE tandem or either of the two can take over. If I remember correctly, after Sharpe in Denver, Shanahan got just as bad with his TEs as he is with his RBs. Maybe Kyle can figure out how to use both.

Davis is simply the better player at this point. Cooly does have Knee issues but are not real serious not an ACL or anything like that just some fluid and swelling. Cooley does look like he lost a step and he looked that way at the end of last year. I expected to see a changing of the guard this year but had no idea it would be this soon. Cooley will have a good game here and there but Davis it the guy who will be targeted more often.

I read alot of reports putting Davis in top-10 TE this year...I was shocked

He looks really good. Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Davis shed some weight this off-season and looks much, much more like a pass-catching TE now. Cooley's knees are bad and I'm surprised he started the season being able to play. That'll change.

All right, I'll plant the Cooley flag...You can't judge the situation after two weeks with Cooley getting healthy and Davis at full speed against bad competition. The Skins schedule gets brutal soon and (1) Davis will come down a bit; (2) Cooley will become more involved (3) Rex will be Rex; and (4) the Shanahans will outthink the room and play both or neither. Either or both may be top 10-12 TEs but so what? At that level the TEs are bunched like kickers.

The TEs are bunched like kickers?

Strongly disagree this year. That's an old school mentality.

I didn't mean all TEs are bunched like kickers, just the ones that are borderline TE1. Here are TEs 9 through 22 in my league:

9 Graham, Jimmy NOS 19 points

10 Scheffler, Tony DET 17

11 Moore, Evan CLE 16

12 Dickson, Ed BAL 14

13 Clark, Dallas IND 12

14 Watson, Benjamin CLE 12

15 Finley, Jermichael GNB 12

16 Gresham, Jermaine CIN 12

17 Winslow, Kellen TAM 11

18 Shockey, Jeremy CAR 10

19 Olsen, Greg CAR 10

20 Fasano, Anthony MIA 9

21 Daniels, Owen HOU 9

22 Walker, Delanie SFO 9

Here is last year's 6 through 15

6 Cooley, Chris WAS 110 points

7 Gonzalez, Tony ATL 103

8 Winslow, Kellen TAM 103

9 Watson, Benjamin CLE 100

10 Miller, Zach OAK 100

11 Pettigrew, Brandon DET 98

12 Hernandez, Aaron NWE 97

13 Keller, Dustin NYJ 95

14 Tamme, Jacob IND 94

15 Heap, Todd BAL 89

Bunched like kickers. Maybe it's my old school scoring system. That's why I have Mr. Zero Catch Gates, to separate from the crowd!

I read before the season that Cooley will have to deal with pain in his knee all season, and his performance will be affected by how he can respond.

Davis looks like an absolute stud, and has in the past... so I ask, why would they sit a fresh and hungry Davis for a gimp?

I've always thought that TEs matter much more in PPR than in non-PPR.

If you are in a non ppr with a TE required that position can drive you nuts all season!

I fully agree... Both of my leagues are PPR so it makes TE relevant.

I picked up Davis in my 16 team league (cause M Lewis was out for week 2....) The main reason I grabbed him was I saw the Redskins game week one and Davis passed the eye test. He looked good and was getting balls thrown his way...

The other thing that caught my eye was targets and receptions.

rec yds avg td lg tar
F. Davis 6 86 14.3 1 40 7
J. Gaffney 5 62 12.4 0 22 8
S. Moss 5 61 12.2 1 19 9
R. Helu 3 38 12.7 0 33 4
D. Stallworth 2 16 8.0 0 9 5
A. Armstrong 2 14 7.0 0 8 4
T. Hightower 1 10 10.0 0 10 2
D. Young 1 4 4.0 0 4 2
C. Cooley 0 0 0.0 0 0 2
Team 25 291 11.6 2 40 43

Davis was 3rd in targets behind the #1 and #2 WR and had the most catches.... Cooley on the other hand had the ball come his way twice and nothing came of it either time.... Davis also had the long pass on the day for the whole team. That means he's not just running little check down routes. Edited by osu1322

i wasn't aware that there was anything left in the cooley kool-aid pitcher 'till this thread popped up. . .

i added him both leagues after his week 1 performance and was happy to see a reprisal, including a trip to the end zone.

davis is currently the best receiving option on that team. he has been on the radar for quite some time and is definitely breaking out.

i drafted daniels and graham. i have them and him in one league. in the other league with limited roster space, i dropped daniels for him.

grossman knows how to find him, and often. . .
