detlef
In other words, the regular season is the play-off, except when it's not. Then it's just "gotta love how much the BCS inspired intrigue and debate!" Like, for instance, when there's an undefeated team from the SEC, Big 12, and Pac 10. Then the regular season is a pretty crappy play-off. Or when there's three or four teams with one loss arguing over who should get to play the SEC champ LSU and the team who everyone agrees should be the one to go lost the last time they played anyone with less than 4 losses. Now, not taking a thing away from Bama, but what kind of "play-off run" is that? If the regular season is a play-off, then isn't it safe to assume there's some sort of culmination? Bama's "cumlination" is beating 5-6 Miss St, Georgia Southern, and an Auburn team that's OK but hardly great. That's what they did to claw their way back into the title game. Talk about the drama! THe last part is what strikes me as funny with regard to the entire way the BCS and rankings work. Let us, in a little fantasy world, imagine that UGA beat USC and BSU and finish the season undefeated. It is not out of the realm of imagination that they would be #2 in the country right now having played a schedule in which they beat 3 ranked teams (Tech, BSU and USC.) THe rest of the teams they beat look like this: TN - 5-6 Vandy - 5-6 MS St. - 5-6 Ole Miss - 2-9 (Only wins against SOuthern Illinois and Fresno State...) Kentucky - 4-7 (wins against W. KY, Cent MI, Jax State and Ole Miss...) UF - 6-5 AU - 7-4 They would have only faced 5 opponents with winning records. There would be no legitimate argument to be made with this schedule for UGA to be in the NC mix. Top 5, maybe...
