There are apps that can be used to inventory your pantry, remove when use, and create shopping lists.

 

 

That's a manual system (unless the app can recognize when the item has been removed and reduce my inventory).

 

He wants something more hevily automated. I'm sure it can be done. But is it practical, useful, and most important CAN IT MAKE MONEY.

Just in Time inventory has been around a really long time. At least we were doing it in the 90s. This just seems the fuition of that mode of thinking.

Too expensive to use in an average household I bet.

 

If you slapped some sort of rfid chip on every item coming into your home, and then buy some sort of.scanner that attaches to your pantry with cell signal out you could in theory have the in/out activity monitored by a server somewhere. You can access your inventory account thru the innernets and set par levels and order triggers as well as where to order the items. Input your credit card and you are done.
