bud29
Definitely - with that story coming out and considering how the skins are on such an awful skid, I don't doubt that he will get the boot very soon.

Mr Bad Example
Definitely - with that story coming out and considering how the skins are on such an awful skid, I don't doubt that he will get the boot very soon. If you take out Washington's 7-game win streak last season, his record as their coach is 17-37 (it's a not-very impressive 24-37 even WITH it) and 3 of the seasons featured 10 or more losses. Not to mention that his playoff record since he no longer had players named "Elway" and "Terrell Davis" on his team is 1-5...his overall coaching record, minus Elway and TD is 124-122. I think it's pretty easy to see where Shanahan's bread was buttered.
Papa Deuce
I have always said he was way overrated. I figured it was pretty much a lock he was gone at season's end, anyway.

And then even if you do, as you noted he STILL has a winning record. Shanny is a very good coach. Anyone who thinks otherwise is clueless. Like, say, the owner of the Skins. He's had about a zillion coaches since he bought the team and has squat to show for it. I have this crazy idea maybe it's not all the coaches' fault. stethant
I think Shanahan was a very good coach, and the "was" started some time around his last season in Denver. He just seem tired, unimaginative, and like he was going through the motions. Nothing he's done since coming to the Redskins has changed that impression. His teams don't win, and if Snyder was mucking with his roster or coaching decisions then he should have left like Parcells did with Jerrah. Personally I think Shanny's trying to get fired but make it look like it was his idea from the get-go.

His teams don't win, You mean like last year when they went 10-6 and made the playoffs - the first year he had a legit QB, btw? I don't know, maybe he's not what he once was. Certainly this year has been a wreck and he shares the blame. But I doubt he's suddenly become a bad coach. He doesn't make (or miss) the throws/runs/blocks/tackles/etc. It starts at the top. BA Baracus
Dan Snyder is very much like, but not quite as bad as, Jerrah Jones. It is an environment in which any coach will struggle.

What are you basing that on? The only time in his career he won was with John Elway, Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe, Rod Smith, and Eddie McCaffrey (spelling), not to mention Alex Gibbs as his offensive line coach. Outside of those few years he had 3 HOF's on his team, he has accomplished nothing. He gets the same undeserved reputation from some just like Norv Turner. When Elway left he couldn't win SQUAT and has never done anything since! He is grossly overrated and was terrible in Denver after Elway left. His offenses are completely. Couldn't win with Plummer, Couldn't win with Cutler, what has the man ever done without John Elway and a host of HOF's? Not very much. As you recall, it was Shanahan's stupidity to continue playing an obviously injured QB who then blew out his knee. This year, Shanny's lost the team entirely. They were due for a down year as RGIII recovered but this is just ugly. Washington D's post says it all. In the fifth year of his reign, this team is no better than when he came to town. stevegrab
Dan Snyder is very much like, but not quite as bad as, Jerrah Jones. It is an environment in which any coach will struggle. Exactly. From reading the article it sounds like JJ's got some competition for most meddlesome owner. If he is the one empowering RG3 and all his media antics, and the coaching staff is against that nonsense and wants more team focus, then of course Shanny gets tossed out. He's a good coach, he proved it before. No coach wins a title without some very talented players. I gotta say, Mr Bad Example should change his user name to Mr. Bad Logic. Would BB win tittles without Brady, or vice versa. Same for Payton and Brees. Take away Aikman, Emmit and Irvin, the Cowboys don't win those titles

Obviously one needs talent to win championships....of course, look at how players like Shula, Reeves, Parcells, Gibbs, and yes, even Belicheck have consistently won with rosters that have turned over on them. When Shanahan lost his heavy hitters, he went from "genius" to just OK.

He quietly had to completely rebuild that team which included Cutler and others. It was definitely on the way back up. I too agree that Shanny can be a great coach. Not sure what's happened this year. I'm not sure the coaching staff around him is that great and I blame Shanny for that. Parcels didn't win anything in Dallas or NE, but he rebuilt those teams into quality teams when they were bad.

Not sure what's happened this year. I'm not sure the coaching staff around him is that great and I blame Shanny for that. Parcels didn't win anything in Dallas or NE, but he rebuilt those teams into quality teams when they were bad. What did Reeves win? 5 conference championship games, to start. 190 regular season games, 11 playoff games (both of which top Shanny); built poor NY and Atl (and Den, for that matter) teams in to respectability. Took CHRIS CHANDLER to the SB. He's pretty damn good coach, and was successful outside of his salad days in Den. That's the point. Parcells gets credit for numerous things - won a SB with Jeff Hostetler at the helm; took the Pats to the SB, made them respectable after a 9-39 stretch the 3 seasons before he got there. Took Vinny Testaverde to the AFCCG. Dallas stint was mostly medicore, granted. People like to look at simple things like "OOOOO SOOOPER BOWLZ" but only one team wins per year. Everything has to break right. Reeves and Parcells get props from me for taking over some floundering teams and making chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.
