Zooty
The most likely outcome is that this apparent advantage will somehow blow up in their faces, because this is the Browns we're talking about.
Dolphin_Akie
How would being coached by the Browns be a good thing considering the last good QB they had played in the pre-SB era?
stevegrab
Interesting for sure, they mentioned it during the news last night. As the article said (and zooty quoted) the Browns are still likely to screw it up. (The coach will tell the GM/owner "Don't draft this guy" and they will anyway, it sells tickets/jerseys and creates a buzz around the team.) Dolphin_Akie, Bernie Kosar was good QB, not great, elite or HOF caliber but still good. He helped lead the team to 3 AFC title games in 4 seasons. Only horsie face Elway (Byner fumlbe etc.) stood in their way of reaching several SBs.(The Browns record in his starts over those 4 years 35-17-1 (a .666 or better winning percentage). Yeah fair enough but one decent QB twenty years ago doesn't fill me with confidence.
stevegrab
Yeah fair enough but one decent QB twenty years ago doesn't fill me with confidence. Most fans are filled with anything but confidence. Another couple of reboots by Haslam and there could be a lot of season ticket holders bailing out. Here's another local article I'm reading now http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2015/02/nfl_executives_say_its_conflic.html One of the more interesting parts is this... Alex Marvez of Fox Sports first reported Jan. 31st that O'Connell would be joining the Browns, and NEOMG confirmed that report. Prolific Athletes congratulated O'Connell on his new job as Browns quarterbacks coach in a Facebook post on Feb. 6, but it's since been deleted. The article goes on to say that multiple NFL executives and one coach told the news agency (NEOMG = the web version of the Cleveland Plain Dealer) but of course it won't name any of them... One source also said it probably won't matter since the Browns won't have much chance to move up and get Mariota. Watch Haslam take that as a challenge and do something stupid.
