Taking Gronk #2?

12 team PPR and I have the # 2 pick. It is a mandatory start 1 TE league.

Is taking Gronk #2 overall a good idea or bad?

My thinking is that Gronk is by far the best TE and there is such a fall off after him when I have to start a TE. There's about 8 Rb's and a lot of Wr's that could finish on top at their position but I believe Gronk would be a lock at #1 TE obviously if healthy all year.

If you take Gronk that early, it will be very difficult for you to get any other serious difference makers at other positions. By the time your second pick comes up you will be chasing second and third tier players. You will have to get lucky in the middle and later rounds to find some surprise breakout players or you run the risk of having just an average team. I just couldn't pass up Bell, AP, or Antonio Brown at number 2. That's my thoughts.

1. Gronk/ADP/Charles/Bell/Lacy

2. McCoy?/AJ Green

3. Cooks/Alshon/ Ingram/ Abdullah/Randle

4. Hyde/ Peyton

5. Martin/ Big Ben

If you gotta have Gronk then you gotta get him at #2 ovferall. Personally I would pass on Gronk that high and hope Jimmy is there in round 3. You gotta ask yourself if McCoy will be there in rd 2. How large is the drop off from Charles/ADP/Bell to Ingram/Abdulla/Gore/Randle/Miller. How bad is the dropoff from Gronk to Graham or Gronk to other mid rd TEs. It's a bit risky in my opinion but if you think your mid round rbs like Ingram/Randle/Abdulla/Gore/Martin will pan out you could pull it off. Just remember that while you'll have the TE advantage your rb depth will be weaker than other teams in the league.
