Starting QB advice

I drafted Matt Stafford. FA available, Carson Palmer, Marcus Mariota and Alex Smith. I don't want a week 1 panic, just wondering if there are better options in the long run. Stafford has nice targets, but, just wondering if I over thought the position when he was still on the draft board. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't give up on Stafford, but would get an insurance policy. I have Stafford myself and drafted Rivers late as a backup. From the available list you provided I'd grab either Palmer or Mariota. Palmer being more of a steady performer in my eyes since you know he's a solid QB. Mariota looked great week 1, but he may have his ups and downs this season.

Stafford tbh isn't that great of a QB, his QBR is consistently 85-90 which is pretty low to be considered among the elite QBs (100+) which he often gets tagged with. I would take Palmer in this situation if you think he will stay healthy. With Ellington injured, the Cards should focus even more on the passing game. All of the Cards' WRs were healthy and looked quick and Palmer synced up quickly with TE Fells.

Alex Smith had some pretty easy drives and can owe his performance to Hoyer who gave up the red zone turnovers to KC's D. Mariota had a near perfect performance but Tampa Bay is hardly a test with a top 10 worst defense against both the pass and run. I would go with Palmer for a week in week out with Stafford as a matchup play.
