The 2018 Browns will draft a QB @ number 1?

as  DEN fan, I believe that teams should focus on the OL before committing to a QB.

No one thought, not one person, that Dak Prescott was worth 1.01 pick, but he's been great. Some of that must be attributed to the OL and run game, yes?

so, if there's no 1.01 pick worthy QB, then trade down, build the lines, build the run game, then go get your QB and put him in a position to succeed.

Have you looked at Dak's numbers witthout Zeke, they showed them before the DAL-WAS game last Thursday, they were horrible. That may not all be on Dak, but he's been great in large part because he had a great OL, a great RB, good WR/TE and a good defense. He was not worth the 1.01, and still isn't.  Was Brady worth 1.01 because of his success even though he was a 6th round pick?

As for what the Browns will do, I don't think they even know yet if they need to draft a QB or not, but probably. I'm not a college fan so don't know the relative worth, they need lots of help (DB, LB, WR, RB, OL) so not sure QB at 1.01 is the wise choice.

One more thing, Dorsey was Chiefs GM when they drafted QB Kevin Hogan who is now on the Browns (2nd/3rd string it varies). In his press conference today he has this to say about Browns QB situation

* He said this about the team's quarterback situation: "That's why I was excited to get here and be around the group. I like the rookie quarterback (DeShone Kizer) who is here now (when he was) coming out in the draft. We brought him out as one of the quarterbacks to interview (in Kansas City).

"This is a quarterback-driven league. To go farther and farther and farther, you need one of those guys. . . The draft is 4 1/2 months away, we have ample time to make a plan here. . .  It's not a bad class.

i think you just look for reasons to argue, because that's what I said.

just to prevent further confusion on your part... I'm saying a good OL can make a good QB great and a bad OL can break a (potentially) great QB.

True about the oline, but a great QB can really help an average OL.  Denver has neither.  Have you seen how fast some of the current QB's get the ball out of their hands?  Apparently Denver doesn't have a play that tries to do that.

Denver should draft a QB #1 as I believe they will end up with a top 3 pick.  And there are probably 3 QB's in this draft that could be legit #1 overall picks.  There's a ton of talent at QB this year.  This is one of those rare years that if handled correctly, Denver could get a franchise QB.  They could even trade back a few spots, still get a great QB prospect and get some much needed high end OL help.  I realize they are desperate for OL help and speed at MLB.  All of which could be helped during free agency, but certainly addressed during the draft.

i hear ya, but how does one become a great QB if the OL allows him to get punished?

And once a QB becomes great, his impact on the game, even when his body is done is amazing. Listening to players talk about how Peyton Manning was able to extremely quickly call the play and then translate the play into english telling each guy what Peyton expects him to do during the play was amazing.

but how does a QB get to that point if he's running for his life so dang much?

First they need to have a sharp mind and good football knowledge and not just be some freak of athleticism that can run and throw occssionally. Seems most of the college QBs fit the latter style, and when faced with comparable athletes

Have to chime in here about the OL vs. QB. Russell Wilson has a horrible OL, yet still makes incredible plays because he is good. The O-line, therefore, does not necessarily make the QB better. That being said, a good O-line can make an average QB much better and a good QB great.  But a great QB does not always need a good O-line to be successful, but it helps. If Wilson had a good O-line, he would be even that much better than he already is, which is a scary thought. That being said, I wouldn't pass up on a potentially great QB in the first 3 picks of the draft.  As we all should already know, teams NEED a good/great franchise QB to be sucessful year-in and year-out, regardless of O-line play.  O-lines can be built over several seasons through later rounds of the draft, but great QBs are rarely found later in drafts and franchises that pass up said QB can be set back for many many years.  Passing on a franchise QB early in the draft for an OL is a mistake IMHO. After all that, I am not sold on Darnold or Rosen, and I think Jackson has the most dynamic upside. I wouldn't take any of them in the first 10 picks, as I do not think they are in the elite franchise QB category.
