Olsen (back) suddenly added to injury report

Greg Olsen (back) is questionable for Week 1 against the Cowboys.

Olsen was a full participant in practice with no indication of injury throughout the week, so this news comes as a shock. He joins OG Amini Silatolu (knee), OT Daryl Williams (knee), and reserve TE Chris Manhertz (foot) as questionable. If Olsen is unable to go, preseason standout Ian Thomas would likely be an every-down player. It's concerning in season-long leagues that Olsen is already hobbled following an injury-ruined 2017.

I doubt Olsen sits since he practiced all week.  It is probably just a formality so that they don't get accused of hiding an injury.  Or maybe it is some sort of gamesmanship to get Dallas to prepare at the last minute for an Olsenless Panthers.  Ian Thomas might be a serviceable replacement if Olsen is out.  Thomas is said to have had a great preseason.  Cam is definitely capable of being a fantasy friendly quarterback for his skill position players.  Ed Dickson had a game with 5 catches and 175 yards last year when Olsen was out.  Thomas looks faster than his combine 4.74 40 time in his preseason touchdown.  Some guys are slow out of the gate but have a fast top end speed.

With the Panthers playing a 4 o’clock game Sunday this really screws up things for a lot of owners. In the league I have Olsen in I have ASJ as a backup and he plays at 1 o’clock. Going to have to start ASJ because the Panthers are not going to say anything about questionable players till the 3 o’clock hour or so. And we can’t pick players up till after week 1 in that league. Damn

The Athletic's Joe Person reports Greg Olsen (questionable, back) is expected to play in Week 1 against Dallas.

Olsen was a surprise late addition to the injury report. He practiced all week, but the Panthers were concerned enough to list him questionable. Olsen may play fewer run snaps at less than 100 percent. Ian Thomas could have a bigger than expected Week 1 role.

FWIW:

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms Greg Olsen (questionable, back) is "good" to go for Week 1 against the Cowboys.

Advice: Olsen was a late addition to the Panthers' injury report this week, though his sore back won't be enough to keep him off the field Sunday against Dallas. The veteran is RotoPat's No. 6 tight end for Week 1.
