jtarr00
For the past 4 years I’ve been in a 10 team 1/2 PPR non-dynasty $150 pp - winner to take all league. I was invited by my friend Mike to play and that friend is a co-commissioner. He also is friends with most of the other team owners and with the other commissioner. Going into the final week of the season I was vying with Mike for a first round bye. I see on Wednesday in the league activity that Mike has a proposed trade with the other co-commissioner, who is in last place with a 2-10 record, for Rob Gronkowski for Amari Cooper and Greg Olsen. In response I engaged in the following texts with Mike: Paul: Hi Mike, hope your doing well. I saw this morning your proposed trade with Alan in Fantasy and wanted to say that I don’t think this is Kosher. It’s standard league rules to have trading deadlines - which would have passed. Your trading with Alan - a two win team with nothing to play for. Teams that are out of the playoffs clearly have no interest In a veto and some may not even be aware of the proposal. If you guys want to be transparent you should send out a group text regarding the trade. Anyway that’s my sentiment. Mike: Thats ridiculous but whatever. Who do u think its in favor of? Paul: Why did we have a trade deadline last year and not this year? Mike: no idea. Paul: Whatever - every sports league has a trade deadline and the optics are bad. If that’s the way you want to run the league so be it. Mike: Stop. Alan would nt do anything to help me as u know. Vote no Paul: I did vote no but that’s not the point - when teams are out they have no incentive to vote. I have no idea what your relationship is Alan and that’s besides the point - what at week 13 you think it’s proper for trades to take place. Mike: I think you are creating your own weather. Paul: You’re the commissioner why don’t you send out a text asking for a vote on the rule and indicate that you received an objection from a team to the rule change. Mike: Theres no rule. Its a fair trade. All the others need to vote. If they object fine Paul: I see where this is going. I’m out. Mike: out of what. Paul: This conversation of trying to have you see my point. Mike: Trade deadline was removed 3 yrs ago per alan when maj vote was put in place. Alain said he’s doing a trade because he does not want to finish last I’ll have him reach out Paul: Don’t need him to reach out to me. Mike:We’ll reinstate next yr - cant change now per espn site. Trust me there was nothing untoward going on here. The trade came about it because I sent him an email giving him manure for having Alan Robinson and Sony Michelle on his bench (combined score over 100 points) and he lost. So I said if you’re not gonna play those guys are any available and then he offered me Alan Robinson for gronk and I said well doyle just got hurt so I need a tight end to fill and that’s how the trade came about. (please not whether intentional or not he was referring to Amari Cooper - not Alan Robinson.) Paul:I, like everyone else, spent the time each week setting a lineup, picking up players, etc. Final week and I’m vying with you for a bye. Your trade with a team to pick up a needed positional player with your friend’s team with 2 wins. Other teams that are out have no interest in vetoing if there no longer going into the winners bracket. I see it as wrong. You don’t. End of story. Mike: Tell u what, take my bye. I dont care. Didnt have one last year either. Or how about i sit amari cooper so now i have a downgraded TE? Better? Paul: I told you what I believe is. proper - hopefully it will be vetoed - I don’t run the league. I don’t want your bye. Mike:Noone veto’d it but u. Its done —————- Our league doesn’t show who vetoed so I don’t know if that’s true. Anyway, mike ended up losing week 13 and I got the bye. The trade saved him though as he won the first round playoff game by 10 points. Now I’m facing him in round 2 of the playoffs. I didn’t bother arguing the fairness of the trade with him at the time be cause I knew that would be a waste of time.(trade analyzers indicates it was not fair) Anyway, I don’t intend to be a part of this league next year as result and am still pissed off. Wanted any advice if it’s worth making a statement by just throwing in the towel.
JordyJordy
Cool story, can you tell it again? 1
tuyuka39
No, don’t throw in the towel, stick it out and then make a decision about whether or not you want to stay in the league moving forward. This is the type of thing where, even if it’s weird to not have a trade deadline, it sounds like you had plenty opportunity to bring that up at the start but you didn’t until it ended up affecting you. And the trade itself is kinda suspect but not horrible. Hope that helps. As you can see by the above response, people on these forums tend to have adverse reactions to long-winded posts, not sure why. Good luck with your situation. rvbigtown
I wouldn't bench my players but that is total bs. Gotta have a trade deadline and in a redraft league an eliminated team has no business making transactions let alone trades.
jtarr00
That was my feeling as well

It was a winner-take-all league and I made the finals. Since it's baseball, we could make weekly transactions and I noticed that a team that was eliminated the first week of the playoffs was still doing add/drops. I questioned why he was making moves when he was eliminated and the commissioner (the only person in the league that I knew) said that technically that guy was still competing to win the game that determined 7th and 8th place. I pointed out that this made no sense to me because it was a money league and me and one other guy were competing for a couple hundred dollars and one guy is picking up guys that could determine our game because he was "competing for 7th place". Besides, he was the only guy who lost who was still making lineup changes so he was guaranteed to win based on the fact that the guy he was playing already gave up. Anyways, the message board got pretty ugly between me and the people who defended the other guy (interestingly enough, he never responded to any of this). Everyone else felt like I was in the wrong. I won the league, took the money and never joined again. I would do the same thing if I were you. Go all out in hopes of winning, then quit the league and don't look back. One of two things is going on, either it's a poorly run league and stuff like this is going to happen again, or he is trying to pull something shady and he got caught. Regardless, there are enough other leagues out there where you shouldn't have to worry about either scenario happening.
jtarr00
Thanks for the comment. Ya I think its more likely something shady. The co-commissioners who made the trade also changed draft selection process this year. It used to be that ESPN provided us the order an hour before the draft. This year these two pronounced that to give more time to prepare for the draft that they used a "random number generator" that determined the draft order. Low and behold - the two commissioners picked 2 and 3 -- with the no. 1 pick to the commish's brother. When I made a comment about it to Mike - his response was that its a disadvantage to pick early. I'll guess - I'll set my best line-up and hope for the best. Either way - I'm done with this crap.

A few years ago in a baseball league, one guy went to China for work. While he was over there, he had a couple guys in his starting lineup get injured and the following week he still had them in his starting lineup. Well, the commish needed that guy to win in order to make the playoffs. Surprisingly, there was a "glitch" on the website where everyone's starting lineups were taken down and everyone needed to put in their starting lineups again. Since the guy in China couldn't be reached, the commish just set his lineup for him, taking out the injured players. Needless to say, most people quit the league the following year. Judge Smales
Set your best lineup and hope to win. Best case here is some Karma kicks in and you take all of their money and then tell them you quit due to the shady dealings.
jtarr00
Keeping my fingers crossed - and that I win this week- that’s enough karma for me and hope for the best after that.
tuyuka39
Just to clarify, I agree with everybody here that not having a trade deadline is bs and I’m not trying to put the blame on you. I was just thinking, especially if you guys haven’t had one for the past three years (idk maybe your friend was lying about that part), that sometimes you gotta speak up if you don’t want shady stuff to go down. But ya leave this league after the season lol
