purplemonster 289 Posted April 27, 2020 I am still surprised Jameis isn't a starter somewhere. He's still young. But maybe the Saints want to coach him up and see if he can replace Brees eventually. Not necessarily a bad plan if there are no other takers

He's going into an established system and it's a low risk-high reward move for the Saints.
Gourdeau 475 Posted April 27, 2020 I was hoping the Steelers would get him. According to reports they offered him a slightly more lucrative deal, but Winstom chose to go learn from Payton and Brees. I can respect that decision.

Bridgewater had a chance to sign with Miami last offseason and compete to be the starter and chose to stay as a backup with the Saints. Jameis has way more physical talent than Bridgewater, if he can get better upstairs he could be really good.

Not necessarily a bad plan if there are no other takers I thought it was just a 1 year deal, but apparently it's 2 years for $21M, with $16M guaranteed. Shorttynaz 1,158 Posted April 27, 2020 Either way he should slide right in. After all, he does have more experience throwing to Saints players than Taysom Hill does.
darin3 1,312 Posted April 27, 2020 Great move by the Saints. See what the guy does as a backup for a year. See if Brees is done after this year..... if he is, sign Winston for a longer deal if he looked to be "gettin' it". He could be the Saints starter for 5-6 years and that offense would still be pretty good.
LordOpie 2,355 Posted April 27, 2020 (edited) I'll have to look deeper later, like 3rd down conversions, but i took a quick look and not many on the league were better than jamies Winston at yards per attempt, 8.1, better than most. MVP mahomes was only 8.3. If jamies can protect the ball while maintaining everything else, he'd be great. Edited April 27, 2020 by LordOpie
LordOpie 2,355 Posted April 29, 2020 Jameis Winston's one-year contract with the Saints is worth just $1.1 million. Wow. He clearly wanted to be there. Probably will be there for a dozen years.
