Remember the USFL from the 80s?

Herschel !!! Wonder if the Vikings can get to him first this time.

I believe they lasted 3 seasons before folding back then, I give them 2 years this time. Not sure why but many people with money seem to think that getting involved in some secondary pro football league in the US is a wise investment. A few of them must be making something for others to keep trying it over and over.

I suppose some will watch, or check it out because they're mostly football fans (don't watch/follow MLB, NBA, NHL) and miss football action. But like most I have little to no interest.

I also don't see the appeal that players had for USFL some 4 decades ago, which included being able to leave college earlier, and picking which team they'd sign with.  Believe those 2 things were key for Herschel Walker, other college players probably liked it too giving them a chance to earn money sooner, and most probably figured the league would either fold or they'd shine and move to the NFL.

NFL salaries were relatively low at that time, so some chose the USFL for a higher salary.

I went to several Oakland invader games.  There was a decent amount of talent in the league.

Booooo... bring back the World League of American Football. I remember the New York/New Jersey Knights. It was the only time I saw New Jersey (my home state) attached to a football team. :bag:

ETA: I clearly ignored the Trump and Walker bromance that started with the New Jersey Generals.

One of the founders of the USFL says "not so fast, we still own the right to the league name, team names etc, not sure who they got the OK from to use that but it wasn't the rightful owners".

Now we get to see if using the USFL name and teams is worth spending some money to legally obtain the rights to them

Wasn't Trump the owner of the USFL team the New Jersey Generals?

Yeah, I forgot about them. I'm going off of nostalgic memory as a child, good catch.

It's where Steve Young started his career.

Jim Kelly too, right? Now that I think about it, that New Jersey team was half decent.

Kelly is right.  NJ Generals had Hershel Walker.

It was a different time, USFL was appealing to some top level players for a few reasons (allowed underclassmen to be drafted, some bigger contracts, you're the star of our league/team), that won't be the case with this second rate circus.
