14 Team Pick 11...wish me luck.

So some guy in our subdivision posted on our neighborhood facebook page that he is in need of a 10th person as someone has moved away.  I say count me in.  He is going to have a draft party and it should be a good time.   Forward fast and it is now a 14-team league.  I have been in a 14 and 16 in the past so know what to expect.   Randomized draft has me picking 11th (ugh).  The draft party is now kid friendly and some have posted they are brining their young kids (ages 1-5 or so).  Another ugh.  So I bail on that party but not the league.  Draft starts in 30 minutes.  Your basic standard ESPN non-PPR league.  The commissioner set the bench for 7 players...will be drafting backups to the backups by the end of it all.  Only $25 league dues.  All my other leagues I pretty much know the others strategies, emotions, and knowledge of the game.  Pretty much going into this blind...should be fun.  Will post the results.

Well, it was pretty brutal waiting for 20 picks every other round, but here is my team:

QB:  Rodgers, Wilson, Fields

RB: Cook, A Jones, Etienne JR, Mattison

WR: Pittman, Kirk, Burks, Doubs, Jameson Williams

TE: Ertz, Smith Jr

DST: Denver

K: Joseph

Funny as I was watching some guys and it was clear they were trying to fill out their starting roster vs picking the best players.  Multiple DST and Ks taken in rounds 7-9.  Josh Allen, MaHomes, Mixon and Harris were all drafted before my pick at 1.11.  I was more than happy to jump on Dalvin Cook.  But wow..does the cupboard get bare in a hurry in a 14 team draft.  Just decided to go for quality backups across the board vs adding 2-3 RBs/WRs that will never start.  Did not need Fields, but could not pass up that value in round 13 especially when compared to who was left at RB and WR (think Damien Williams and Curtis Samuel).  And who knows, might end up using one of my QBs as trade bait when the first big QB goes down with injury.

I like my QBs, love my RBs (but no bench I know), WRs are adequate but if Williams pops mid season could be pretty good.  TE serviceable.  Again 14 teams so this is pretty much my team.  For full disclosure I thought I could put Williams on IR and take a post-draft flyer on a the handcuff for CMC or Barkley, but his designation is O and no IR.  So it goes.  And I don't consider bye weeks aside from my QB2 when drafting, and surprisingly the only bye week that looks tough is week 9.  But if Doubs or Williams can step up even to mediocre, it will be good.

That's a helluva team for a 14-team league, good thing those guys seem ignorant of Average Draft Position and appropriate strategies. Good luck!

Also, keep an ear to the ground on who they're favorite teams are; you might be able to swing trades that way and get the better end of the deal while they get their favorite team's player. Just an idea
