Kmet or Taysom Hill?

Kmet is the #2 option in Chicago, but while Hill's not on the field very often, when he is he ends up being the centerpiece of the play (this is a "quote" from TheAthletic article today... it's not wrong). I think Kmet is more of a sure consistent thing, but Hill might end up doing more

Could have fooled my 0.000 week 1 !

(fwiw, I do think kmet is a decent TE option)

Did you see any of that SF-CHI game? There wasn't much passing, Fields threw the ball 18 times, and probably 15 were short passes. Eight different players were targeted, including 1 for Kmet and 2 for the other TE Griffin.

I'm a Kmet owner, I was hoping for more than zero points of course. Today I dropped my backup TE (Hooper) and added Ertz who got plugged into the starting line-up. I considered grabbing Hill, but his gadget usage had me a bit concerned that some weeks he'd do very little. And I think Ertz will be a lot more involved with the Cardinals. (He was actually rated ahead of Kmet on my list, but got drafted and later cut before week 1). Ertz had 81 targets in just 11 games after joining the team. Hopkins played in one less game and had 17 fewer targets.

Hill is like fireworks ... they're dazzling and make you ooh and ahh when they go off, light up the sky in pretty colors, but only for a few minutes before its dark again.  Kmet is like the street light ... just there where no one really notices but provides consistent light.  Sure, the bulb burns out every so often, but if you need to see in the dark its more steady than fireworks.

Yes, some.

Me too.  I went out of my way to draft him, too early, as I indicate don here previously.

I hold and like him, think he could work into more volume and results.

All that said, one can no longer call a player who was tagged as a starter and earned 0.00 a consistent performer.   The result are the antithesis of "performance".

I mean, I guess he consistently wasnt targeted.  Game script, weather, opponent, are all the "why".  It is what it is.

It was one game in horrendous weather, the person who commented about his consistency is referring to what he's done over time, usage in the offense etc and what was expected this season. That is more consistent opportunity compared to a gadget player like Hill.  You seem to want to focus on just that one game and that he consistently did nothing as a counter point.

Again, I own him.  I drafted him (relatively HIGH up too).  I expect a good season.  I just cant use the phrase "consistent performer" any longer until he proves that.

This. As of now the only thing propping up Kmet is speculation; he has done nothing in the past to prove he could be a TE1. Decent catch and yardage total last year, but zero TDs. And zero catches in a game that was admittedly affected by weather, but it's not like it was that NE-BUF game from last yr. Fields still had a couple passing TDs...

I may play him this week or swap him out for Everett.

I won't dispute your analysis, but the original question was Kmet or Hill.  Even given your skeptical view of Kmet, would your rather take the gamble on him or Hill?

In Kmet's first season thru 9 games he averaged less than 1 target per game then had 36 targets in his final 7 games, over 5 per game. In his second year he had 93 targets in 17 games, about 5.5 per game.

That's the consistency I'm looking at, not one bad week to start this season, one in which passing was severely limited by the weather. I understand wanting to see more from him before you play him again, but thinking that week 1 with 1 target and 0 receptions is his new consistent level is very much an overreaction.

PS He isn't elite, we all know that. He's a borderline TE1 in 12 team leagues.  A site I use for rankings/projections has him as the #12 TE with 68-677-4 stat line (last year was 60-612-0).

I guess it depends on your league.  If Hill in case of Jameis being hurt could be Qb again and be listed at TE he is a cheat code.  If you could stash him and have the bench depth do it. I haven't seen anything from Kmet or Fields to prove Cole will succeed.

This was already addressed in another discussion of Kmet vs. Hill at TE, Taysom Hill is not the backup QB, Andy Dalton is. rajncajn who follows the Saints closely explains that Hill is going to do what he does regardless of Winston or Dalton at QB and is only going to produce decent points thru a TD or big gain. More random than any actual TE that is a receiver. I'd add if its a PPR league even less reason to grab Hill.
