I don't think this should downgrade Wilson as much as his backups

From The Huddle News item

Huddle Up: Mack is an intriguing stash in very deep leagues, although there is also a very good chance he never sees the field for the 49ers. This move suggests that San Francisco feels good about Jeff Wilson but wants at least another veteran option around in case Jordan Mason and/or Tyrion Davis Price aren't ready to step up as Wilson's backup during Elijah Mitchell's absence.

Really dating yourself. 🙄

Was it a reference to the Mark Morrison 1996 song of that name? (Wasn't familiar and looked it up.)

If a music reference from 25 years ago is dating yourself, what about songs from the 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s (see One Song thread in The Tailgate).

Ahh familiar with that much older song and did not make the connection.

What Shaft and I are referring to is Return of the Mack by Mark Morrison. It is repeated very recognizably in the song. Mack the Knife has some lines about Mack returning or something but that is unrelated to what we were referring to. The meaning of 'Mack' is totally different in the two songs.
