When is a Stud no longer a Stud

One of the rules of FF is "Never Bench Your Studs". But when does a Stud cease to be a Stud?

An Couple of Examples:

Hines Ward:

Always start. He's only had about 2 good games. No longer a Stud?

Santana Moss:

Was at the start of the year, but has had one good game this year. No longer a Stud?

So, when do you remove the Stud label on a player ????

One instance would be when a player has had only one good year and there's consistent evidence he was a system product. I'm tempted to put Portis in that category, but will wait to see what he does the rest of the year. A 2 year window should be a minimum to declare studliness in the first place.

Never bench your studs is a very tricky motto. This week Im benching Joe Horn in favor of some other receivers that you wouldnt put on the same level as Horn .Im doing it because of Champ Bailey.I think the matchups play a big part with a stud and also like in the first post sometimes you keep a stud tag on a guy too long..

when Chad Johnson has to play with a rookie QB....that's when.

Hehe--I was going to say that a stud is no longer a stud "When his name is Chad Johnson"

What I find interesting is guys like CMart, who had lost their studliness, but this year they practically piss Viagra.

Santana Moss was never a stud. One year wonder at best.

The biggest surprises this year have been Harrison and Holt. They were solid studs, doing it multiple years in a row and have now fallen off the face of the earth. Definitely not worth their respective draft positions. :D

To play your stud or not play your stud, that is the question.......

I have to admit the player I struggle with recently is Marvelous Mavin. On any week he could explode at rack up the points, BUT? What weeks is it ?? Exp. last week 2 for 22, performances like that this time of year can sink your season. I know he's a stud but there is no consistancy.

Harrison STUD? YES, absolutely. However at this time of year is he still an everyweek starter, especially if you have a solid option to play in his place???

When a Kevan Barlow loses his QB(Garcia), WR(Owens), and O-line all in one year. I learned a valuable lesson this year after drafting him with the 12th pick in the 1st round. A STUD is no longer a STUD without his supporting cast. Especially one that didn't deserve the tag in the first place after performing well in just under half a season!

Funny that you mention Harrison and Holt along with Ward...At one point they were my 3 WRs on one of my team. What was supposed to be my strength turned out to provide completely inconsistent and disappointing results almost every week. I also own Chad Johnson in my other main league. B)

At the end of the season, none of those guys will have bad numbers. They just aren't as good as expected, and with the exception of Harrison, they have all had major problems finding the endzone. :D

:D:DB)

You're crazy! Sure he is lacking in TDs, but he has the 6th most rushing yards in the NFL, and of those 6, only Barber and Holmes have more receiving yards. In my big money league, he is also the 6th best RB according to our scoring system.

Based on the above statistics, I'd say you are overreacting just a tad on Portis' worth, wouldn't you?

So, do we consider Droughns to be a "stud"? Do we ever start Droughns over Portis?

Q: When is a stud no longer a stud?

A: When they are drafted or traded to my team.

God, isn't that the truth. My roster reads like a "Who's Who" of this year's disapointments. And that's not even counting all of the busts I've traded away (Travis Henry, Kevin Jones, Quintin Griffin, Lee Suggs, Donte Stallworth, Daniel Graham, etc.)

Amen to that -- it was almost me ... thanks to other owners laughing at me, I failed to acquire McNair and Randy Moss this year both just prior to their injuries ...

Yep, that's what Plaxico owners are saying tooo ... oh, wait ...  :D  Gotta love Roethlisberger.  Plus, Palmer's not a rookie ...

in terms of seeing the field....Palmer is a rookie.

and Roethlisberger is a rare exception, which i think you'll agree.

Plaxico has been much better with Roethlisberger(although it would be hard to do much worse than he did last year) but i believe Ward only has 3 TD receptions.

Im doing that very thing this week in one of my local leagues.

Starting

C Mart vs Cle

Droughns vs NO.

and

Benching Portis vs Philly.

A win, and I clinch my division, a loss and Im tied with this weeks opponent.

Record, 8-2, his 7-3. both 8-3 if I lose

head to head, 1-0, 1-1 if I lose

Total Pts I'm up by 12.

Talk about a swing game. And Im benching a so called stud Portis for a WW pickup in Droughns. :D

I didn't draft Portis in a single one of my leagues and was able to trade Droughns off in the only league I had him in. It was a keeper and don't have faith in Shanny's RBs year to year. Anyways, I have suggested several times in the FFAF over the past few weeks that people start Droughns over other "studs" including Portis. I'm a huge fan of ASYS but, I think "stud" is being redefined in come isolated cases.
