zzp75
I'm in a "pick 3" league (choose 1QB, 1RB, 1WR every week, no repeats...lowest points eliminated) and I've been saving some good players for the final 3 weeks. Anyway, where is my question: Do NFL teams that have a guaranteed playoff spot sometimes bench their top players so as to not risk injuring them? I was specifically thinking of Philly, who could secure an early top seed in the NFC. I would hate to save a WR like Owens or QB like McNabb, only to have them riding the pine Week 16. I'm looking for anyone who has seen this happen in previous seasons...Thanks!
KevinL
Yes. Teams that have their position in the playoff, homefield advantage, etc locked up will commonly rest some of their first team for half of the game, or even more, during week 16. Big Country
Teams do it all the time. It is a major reason a lot of league like ot have their championship games in week 16 rather than 17.
Piranha
This is why we hold the Superbowl in week 16, and not week 17.
Balzac
happens all the time and I hope it happens again - the team I expect to face in one of my super bowls sports a surging Westbrook . . . if he sits, all the better for me.
weekapaug
Yes, it does and will happen. Use them (Owens/McNabb) in week 15 against Dallas. Looks like they need 2 more wins to clinch homefield at this point, so you should be safe not playing them this week against WAS.
forever in debt to mo lewis
ask Mike Shannahan...I think alot of teams have been shying away from doing it because of what happened to the Broncos in 96 when Jax upset em in Denver after their 1st round bye

Midget Chain Gang
I think you only need to worry in Week 17, if you're still playing... up to Week 16, teams usually have their regular starters in. However, I do know if you're a McNabb/TO/Westbrook owner, you have to hope your guys do all the damage you need them to do in the first half of games, because I'm thinking down the stretch if they're blowing teams out, those guys will be lucky to play a complete 3 quarters, let alone playing anything close to a full 4. wildbluefan
Yes, I am worried about same thing, have ridden the McNabb / Owens combo to a scant lead in a big money league , and am worried about that end-of -year scenario ! I was hoping the Falcons would win out and make a threat to Eagles , but thats not happening now !

If/when they wrap it up Andy Reid will likely not sit starters the entire game. He would likely get them some reps then sit them, but of course they will not be productive.
