Washington vs. Purdue thoughts - Strictly betting

Wash is favored by 2.5

They have the 4th ranked passing attack in the nation, and 16th overall offense in the nation.

They have a good D, only allowing 2.9 yards/rush, but since they stick to the air, they are behind in rushing margin.

Meanwhile, Purdue has been straight killing teams in rushing margin, and only lost to Ohio St. by 4.

This game could be high scoring, but if Purdue gets ahead, they could eat up the clock if they get their rushing game going.

I'm tempted to take Purdue, any thoughts???

I am a Purdue grad. They have been extremely competitive w.r.t. yardage totals in every game they've played, even against the best teams. The big problem has been TURNOVERS. They have really gave away a lot of games by laying the ball on the ground, sometimes without even being hit. They also have trouble with field goals which causes them to gamble quite a bit on 4th down when other teams automatically send their field goal team on the field. Without those problems they EASILY could have been a 2-3 loss team.

It's always a risk to bet on a team that turns the ball over a lot but I would take the risk. Purdue hasn't been blown out in any game they played. I think they were playing better down the stretch and are difficult to prepare for because they play two QB's, one who runs a lot and the other who is more of a pocket passer.

Tiller's bowl record is generally favorable. He's pulled a few big upsets (beating #4 Kansas State was the biggest) and has been competitive in every bowl they've been to.

Dang, what is the deal with Purdue's punting game in Bowl games? You don't see the snap to the punter fumbled too often but Purdue did it twice in their Bowl game vs. Kansas State a few years back, once in the Rose Bowl two years ago and today in the Sun Bowl. Don't they practice their punt teams between the end of the regular season and the Bowl game?

Another awesome performance by a middle of the pack Big 10 team (at least once they got started). Purdue outgained Washington about 400 to 150 yards after the 1st quarter (excepting the very end of the game when the game was out of reach and the Boilers went to the prevent defense).

Minnesota, Wisconsin and Purdue had a combined 9-15 Big 10 record BUT they are 3-0 in Bowl games.
