ATHENS, Ga. -- Nine Georgia football players were declared ineligible Wednesday by the NCAA for selling their 2002 Southeastern Conference championship rings.

The group included senior receiver Michael Johnson and cornerbacks Kenny Bailey and Bruce Thornton, junior receiver Fred Gibson and four sophomores -- defensive tackle Darrius Swain, linebacker Tony Taylor, cornerback Tim Jennings and walk-on Trey Young.

Freshman nose tackle Kedric Golston, who had already been cited by the university for selling his ring, was also declared ineligible.

Gotta love the NCAA - the OTHER topic on this board is one major conference threatening to destroy another to line its pockets with 10s of millions of dollars, but an ATHLETE sells something of HIS that he EARNED through hard work for a few bucks and the hammer comes down....

Didn't some guy get fired from the Anaheim Angels for selling his World Series ring? The guy was like a programmer for the teams website (the company bought every employee rings) and he put it up on ebay hoping to get 20k to put a down payment on a house. Upper management got word of it and canned his a$$.
