I'm doing my online auction right now on NASCAR.com.  Guys are bidding on him like crazy.  He's good on all types of tracks and he deserves a championship more than anyone else.

Johnson and Gordon are probably the front runners, but some of my dark horse candidates include Joe Nemecheck, Jeff Burton, and Elliot Sadler. I was very suprised about how strong the Ford's were. As for me...I'm pulling for Ricky Rudd...he's my favorite driver....the 30th try is the charm!!

I was just wondering if anybody noticed this or not.

At the end of the national anthem, they had a falconer's eagle flying in the ceremony area. However, being the avid birder that I am, this species was not our national emblem, a Bald Eagle, but was in fact an African Fish Eagle. I saw this last year (2004) at the start of the Daytona 500 and thought I was seeing things. Being the only race I watch during the year, I tuned in to see the show. And again they switched birds.

Although very similar in appearance (white head and white tail), the Bald Eagle's head has a very distinctive line at the neck or collar - only the head is white. While the African Fish Eagle's white extends down the chest and back in a V formation. Also, the Bald Eagle is black or very dark brown body, while the AFE is more of a rusty brown.

Just my $.02, but you think with all the $$ spent on the race, they could afford to use the real thing! :D

Jimmie Johnson has got it here.

Even though I'm a junior fan, DEI looked pretty weak during the shootout, even after they fixed his plug, he made no real power moves.

Junior looked terrible all week and then flipped a switch with 20 laps to go. I was doubting him as well, but I'll never do it again.

Nice race, great finish!! I wish Rudd hadn't cut his tire so early, looked like he had a pretty good car. Big props to Jeff Gordon for taking down Junior, but I'm telling ya...two more laps..and Kurt Busch would have found a way around Gordon...he was CRAZY fast at the end!!!

Just my take from sitting in the stands.

There were many solid cars throughout the race. However Gordon was the fastest car all day long. While he didnt lead all day he didnt have to. When he wanted the lead he got an incredible run out of turn 2 and just drove right by the leader no matter who it was. He drove a very smart race and had plenty left at the end. Bush was coming for him at the end but it's one thing to get to the leader and its another thing all together to pass the leader! Burton ran a very good race and had a strong car to be sure. The driver that really caught my attention though was the rookie DEI guy. Truex was always in the top 15 and once his pit crew gets a little better he will be a force to be reckoned with. He would go into the pits in 6th or 7th and come out 18th and then move right back up to the top 10. There was a couple of times that he and Lil E would hook up and Truex would have to leave him behind cause Lil E just wasnt fast enough!

I went to this race on passes we recieved from Raybestos . It was an awesome package! Got to the track at 730 am and had breakfast in their promo tent. After breakfast we went out onto the track for the "Pit Tour" ( we blew off the tour guide before he even showed up and went out by ourselves, if you ever get one of these deals I highly suggest this move). Got to walk pit road while the teams were getting their pit stalls ready for the race. The crews were freindly and informative when they could be. Then went to the infield were we hung out and watch some band I never heard of but had a good time just taking in the sites. Then we decided to (Scam) our way into garage passes which are new to Daytona from what i understand. Very cool to get on the other side of the glass and see the teams in action just hours before the biggest race of the year. We made it about 20 mins in the garage before someone caught us and escorted us back to where we were supposed to be. Then it was time for a nap. I pulled up a warm piece of asphalt just past the start finish line and snoozed for about 25 min. How freakin cool is that? Then it was off to the seats which were great(someday I would like to sit towards the top of Petty Tower which are the best seats in the house) we could see the whole track! There was one spot that we lost the cars and that was right where Wimmer did the carnival ride outta turn 3. Just my luck :D . This was everything I expected it to be and I am not a race newbie as I have been to 5 Brick Yard races , 2 at Bristol , and 1 each in Charlotte, Martinsville, and Michigan. This race beat em all by a bunch!

Bristol's supposed to be the toughest ticket in racing. I'm gonna try and get tickets for the 2006 season.
