PantherDave
Regardless of wether he comes back 100% from micro-fracture surgery, Stephen Davis will be the back-up, and the Deshaun Foster era has officially begun in Carolina. If this is old news-sorry, as I have not checked in for awhile.
loaf
I haven't kept up too much with Foster but isn't he prone to the injury bug as well...? Or was that just last season...?

In his second season he worked out well as a backup/third down back but he lost three fumbles as well. Then last year he needed clavical surgery missing most of the year. ABearWithFurniture
Are they keeping Goings or is he a FA?...
PantherDave
Goings will return-the #3 bach I assume.
Swampnuts
The rotation should be Foster, Davis, and Goings with Hoover the starting fullback. Beware the RBBC though. Fox won't hesitate to rotate Foster and Davis. Whoever does take the starting job I'd expect to see 8-10 carries going to the other two. PantherDave
My info was gleaned from the Panther website in Jan, and it stated that Foster would be the #1 running back going into the 2005 season, so there is evidently no competition in TC-Foster is the man. Also, I have not heard any news to condradict this as it was straight from the Fox's mouth.
PantherDave
Also, I think the "3 yards and a cloud of dust" days are over in Carolina. This is now Jakes offense, and the Panthers were a 50-50 or maybe slightly more pass orienated( out of neccesity) team last year. Foster is better at catching the ball out of the backfeild, so look for a more wide open offense in Carolina this next season.

Jake definately showed he could get the job done. I agree Foster is the better choice if healthy. I fear injuries along the way could cause concern and open the door for the Davis/Goings return. ABearWithFurniture
Most excellent...that means Goings will be a steal in the 6th/7th round...
Jolly Rodgers
I still think Carolina is going to draft a RB this year. If one of the 3 bigtime backs fall to them they will pull the trigger. If not, there are still the likes of JJ Arington or Cedrick Fason they could take a look at in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.
