Rumor Mill...

Linebacker Derrick Johnson is another Texas Longhorns player apparently dropping on NFL draft boards. The Cowboys, for one, question his ability to take on blocks and tackle from the backside. They don't see him as a first-round player.

Wow! after this little tidbit came out, I hope the Browns take Rolle...

I saw something about the Vikings downgrading him too. We all have to realize now is the time for teams to talk negative about players they are interested in. Smoke screens all around.

Yeah there are going to be so many reviews (negative and positive) on players that I would take what is said by teams with a grain of salt...........

I also read several reports where Johnson gets poor grades on tackling, especially when they run right at him.... not good at shedding blocks...

I don't recall any glowing reports about Lawrence Taylor's ability to shed blocks when he came out of UNC -- but he had a pretty good career.

I am not comparing Derrick Johnson to LT, however, he had the look of a player who could take over a game from the OLB spot.

I wouldn't mind seeing Miami take a shot with him...

I still think he is a first round pick, no doubt, the guy is fast. He may start out as a sub pass rushing specialist, until he refines his run defense skills. An awful lot of the best DE's in the NFL started out that way, as have LB's, situational subs. Even Vilma was going to be a sub last year, till Cowart got hurt.

I would love to see the Vikings take him if Edwards/Williams are gone. Let him learn under Cowart for a year then bring him in full time next season.
