muck
Apart from injuries, which obviously piss off FF owners, what off-field player action and/or on-field coaches decision would make the most FF owners mad? In putting together this list, I tried to consider the downside of players that would generally get picked as the #1 player at a position for a team...I may have missed potential crappy situations...but, this should provide some interesting discussion. Thoughts? .............................................. QBBC in Tennessee? KCs defense is so improved, it reduces TGreen's production? A SAlexander holdout in Seattle, cutting into the season? ATrain poaches the goalline carries in DAL, killing JJones? RBBC in KC? RBBC in Denver? RBBC in Miami? Reggie Wayne taking over as the #1 WR in Indy? A TO holdout in Philly, cutting into the regular season? Kerry Collins picks up the bottle thereby killing Moss' value?
darin3
On a more case-by-case situational basis, I would say the "fake handoff and QB rollout to pass" at the goal-line pisses FFL owners off. Or taking the featured back out at the goal-line for a "bruiser", short-yardage back. Is that the sort of thing you're looking for? If not, sorry for the semi-hijack. muck
That's nothing like what I'm looking for Darin... I am looking for specific potential headaches...like, if you draft Holmes at your RB1, be prepared for the fact that Larry Johnson proved himself very able last year, and in order to preserve PHolmes, KC may actually use a RBBC. That's what I'm talking about!
major-tom
Here are my answers to your questions. .............................................. QBBC in Tennessee? Nope, McNair starts and plays until he gets hurt. Could be week 1 or week 10, but he won't make it through the season. KCs defense is so improved, it reduces TGreen's production? Still too many questions on the defensive side. Even if they improve it takes atleast half the season for them to gel/mature. Green will still have to throw most games to keep the Chiefs in games. A SAlexander holdout in Seattle, cutting into the season? This could very well happen, but who really knows if one side will give in. If you have early drafts and the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th pick overall you have to consider this. ATrain poaches the goalline carries in DAL, killing JJones? This may be a concern but until it happens throughout the year, who knows? Just draft him where you normally would, and make necessary adjustments next year. RBBC in KC? As long as KC stays in the playoff race Priest is the man. If KC is way up or down in a given game you'll probably see L. Johnson. RBBC in Denver? Denver doesn't usually use RBBC, Shannahan will pick a starter and ride him until he gets hurt, starts fumbling, or is ineffective. If you have Bell and backups you may be ok here. If Bell gets nicked up and you have to rely on injury reports it could become a problem. RBBC in Miami? No track record with Saben, and talented but unknown rookie in R. Brown....who knows. Ricky just makes the situation more of a headache. Reggie Wayne taking over as the #1 WR in Indy? Not for a few more years, IMO. A TO holdout in Philly, cutting into the regular season? Really a f'ed up situation here. With the salary cap implications almost impossible to trade him. He's almost already said too many stupid things to go back in the lockeroom including throwing his star QB under the bus. I'll probably stay away unless he fell several spots in the 2nd round. Kerry Collins picks up the bottle thereby killing Moss' value? Would make for great foder for Raider haters everwhere. 870142 Edited July 8, 2005 by major-tom
MikesVikes
Many of your choices are the risk that you take when selecting your roster. You pick Holmes, live with the potential downside. Risk/reward will always be a part of FF. I would say that if Peyton Manning was benched during the season for a nobody, that would piss me off a whole lot. Chessmaster
Wayne and Harrison should both be owned in every league, so Wayne taking over as the #1 wideout in Indy would please as many owners as it pissed off. That nullifies that, IMO.
Hitman
Reggie Wayne taking over as the #1 WR in Indy? 870142 This process has already started. I've said before, don't be surprised if he puts up better #s than Harrison this year. He almost did that last year being the #2 target. Harrison's best seasons are behind him. If you watch the Colts games you would see this. Harrison is still great, don't get me wrong. Once Wayne learns not to beeatch slap his QB, he'll be the first guy Peyton looks for every time. I also disagree that Collins will be the QB of choice this season.
MikesVikes
Wayne had over 250 more receiving yards than Harrison last year. The Colts have thrown to Wayne in the Red zone 41 times in the last two years. Only Moss has more than that. This is Harrison times 3. muck
Major Tom missed the point completely... I understand that every pick has risks. Maybe I should have said, "Which headline pisses off more FF owners?" ...news that Shanny benches Bell for Griffin...and two games later goes to Clarett and then the next game goes back to Bell for two more games...then Mike Anderson for four games only to allow Clarett to finish out the season... ...or Collins enters AA, leaving Oakland in the hands of Marques Tuiasosopo, pissing off Moss owners everywhere... ...or ATrain leads the NFL in TDs...JJones leads the NFL in rushing yards... ...or... Savage Beatings
A stud RB quitting to smoke Josh Gordon. 870351 Or a potential stud throwing away his career with a Whizzinator. On a smaller scale, the worst thing during the regular season for FF Owners is the dreaded gametime decision on stud players that have mysterious injuries. MikesVikes
Nagging injuries (like backaches) that turn up with no warning on game days is what ticks me off. Players like MRob have had this in the past.

The dreaded Questionable on the injury report that either turns into: a great game when you decide to play it safe or a DNP
Swampnuts
I don't care if it's A-Train in Dallas, Rhodes/Manning in Indy, Crockett in Oakland.....There's nothing that pisses me off like stud RB's losing goal line carries. It drives me freaking crazy.

Seahawks21
Okay, I think I gotta few: RBBC in Chicago, Tampa, Philly, Cleveland, Arizona, Carolina, Reggie Williams taking over for Jimmy Smith at #1 Martz rides Stephen Jackson enough to hurt Bulger/Bruce/Holt Marvin Harrison stays the #1 receiver in Indy Mike Williams and Charles Rogers emerge as Garcia's favorite targets The Ravens try to open up their offense, hurting Jamal Clinton Portis doesn't rebound
Chessmaster
I have one that just happened today: Apparently the Ravens are considering putting Jamal Lewis on the PUP list and not revealing their reasoning. This is very annoying since owners heading into their draft won't know WHY Lewis is on that list, let alone when he will get off of it. Where'd you get the info? Is it because of his ankle? IIRC, the PUP is like 6-weeks, then they either have to come off or go on IR. I think the PUP is for a finite amount of time.
