Gopher
Saw it on the pga leaderboard, but I have not seen anything yet as to why. Not like he was leading the tournament or anything, but it's unusual for a top-10 guy to make a mistake that would DQ him. Anybody know what he did? Anybody know what he did? 880471[/snapback] He DQ'd himself, the report is the last night over dinner he determined that after he addressed a putt on #9 during the first round the ball moved, on replay it was impossible to tell, but to keep the integrety of the game he disqualified himself and went back to the states. Great sportsmanship
SeductiveNun
From Rotoworld: David Toms - G - PGA - Jul. 15 - 9:00 am et David Toms disqualified himself from the British Open this morning after an incident on the 17th hole yesterday. He says his ball was moving when he putted it, thus he signed an incorrect scorecard for not counting the penalty at that time. However, television cameras couldn't detect any movement in the ball prior to Toms hitting it. In any case, his open is over. Jul. 15 - 9:00 am et Essentially, what theohiostate said. justin
http://www.opengolf.com/news/displayNewsItem.sps?id=60004307 Toms disqualifies himself from The Open 15-Jul-2005 10:59 (BST) David Toms, who finished in a tie for fourth place when The Open was last played at St Andrews in 2000, has disqualified himself from this year's Championship. He told R&A officials this morning that he wanted to report a possible breach of the Rules during his first round. On the 17th hole he hit his second shot over the green onto the gravel path and eventually had a short putt for a six. He holed the putt quickly and without much thought but became increasingly concerned later that his ball may have moved after he addressed it. He did not include the resulting penalty under Rule 18 in his score for the hole. The penalty is automatic disqualification. Toms decided to disqualify himself from The Open and The R&A accepted his decision.
