Mock Draft Feedback

Recommended Posts

I haven't played in a 10 team league for 7 years. I am a little worried about some of the strategy differences between a 12 and 10 team draft. I just got done with this mock at Antsports. It is a high performance scoring flex league with TE required. This is how it went:

QB Donovan McNabb 3.04

QB Carson Palmer 9.04

RB LaDainian Tomlinson 1.04

RB Julius Jones 2.07

RB Warrick Dunn 6.07

RB Duce Staley 7.04

RB Travis Henry 11.04

WR Darrell Jackson 4.07

WR Steve Smith 5.04

WR Ashley Lelie 8.07

WR Lee Evans 10.07

WR Keary Colbert 13.04

TE Chris Cooley 15.04

TE Ben Troupe 16.07

PK Matt Stover 14.07

DT Carolina Panthers 12.07

I think my QB's and RB's are solid, even though I might have reached a little with McNabb at the 3.04 spot. I am just a little worried about my WR's and I think I waited too long to nab a TE. What do you guys think?

Looks ok to me, solid starters at every position except maybe TE, which is a crapshoot anyway unless you get a Gonzo/Gates type. As long as S. Smith is healthy, WRs are reasonable, given your crew of RBs. McNabb may have been a bit of a reach as you say, but hard to call w/o knowing what else was going on during the draft at the point where you picked him ... in the only Huddle 10-team mock, QBs (other than Manning & Cpep) started going in rounds 4-5 I think.

LT at 1.04? Who went before him? Manning? Priest? Edge? Alex?

I was floored as well. It went Manning, Priest, Alexander and then I picked LT. Maybe I was in a mock draft with a bunch of 12 yr olds.

In hindsight, I probably should have gone with Walker, Horn, or C Mart with the 3.04 pick, but I guess that's what a mock draft is for.

Hey Guys:

I'm #5 in a 10 team league...been antsporting it to beat the band...I'm usually landing Deuce in the first round (Manning goes between 1 and 4 pretty consistently)...I then grab my number 2 RB in the second round (unless Culpepper falls which is rare) and I'm picking from Tiki, Julius, and Kevin (I usually opt for one of the Jones for upside)...then the third is where the 10 team league gets interesting...in the mid-spots the third round can have Chad Johnson, McNabb and C.Mart available...I usually opt for McNabb (as 49er addict did) ...but am really tempted by the last remaining stud at WR or the 2004 rushing titlist. That said, when I grab a WR or RB...I end up missing the 2nd tier QB run and cant really grab a "value qb" until about round 8 (so I miss out on Bulger, Green and Collins) who I can't rationalize taking in the 4th round (the tier 2 QBs are usually gone in the end of the fourth or the first half of the 5th.

Any thoughts from other 10 team league guys drafting in the middle? :D

Also, how about Hasselbeck (I'm puttng him in tier 3 for QBs) but I could grab him in the 5th (pretty sure thing) or the 6th (pretty dicey)? :D

Danke!

If you can start 3 RB, grab CuMar in the 3rd. If not, I guess you have to consider McNabb (although I hate to pay that much for a QB) just to ensure that you have 3 solid starters at QB/RB/RB. Although your Antsports experience seems to indicate otherwise, I'm surprised that you can't get CuMar or CJ in the 3rd and still have a chance at a Collins/Green/Hass/Brooks type in the 4th or 5th ... if those guys are in fact gone by then, may as well wait and settle for a Delhomme/Palmer/Griese type later on, but in a 10-team, I'd rather have a QB you can count on for decent points every week, and fill in your WR slots each game by playing the matchups.

Well according to the Huddle's rankings and Tiers... this is what your team came out as:

McNabb - Tier 1

Palmer - Tier 2

Tomlinson - Tier 1

J. Jones- Tier 2

W. Dunn- Tier 3

D. Jackson- Tier 2

S. Smith -Tier 2

A. Lelie- Tier 3

L. Evans Tier 3

C. Cooley Tier 3

B. Troupe Tier 3

Panthers D Tier 2

Exactly. I've done at least 6 mocks this summer already and you have to keep in mind that many people, myself included, will pick differently from mock to mock just to see how things work out. I'm a bit surprised to see LT go at 4 but you could make an argument for any of those guys being picked before him.

Oh, and I agree with your thought that maybe you should've taken one of those WRs at 3.04. All in all though, you're team turned out pretty nice.

Thanks for the advice...I've been noodling on this abit and coming out where you are...actually we do start 3 rbs in my league...so:

1) I'm thinking I MUST go for the third RB if someone like CMart or even Lamont/Bell is around...unless Moss, Owens, Holt or Chad slip to the 3rd (agreed?) Any one out there seen anybody slipping into the 3rd who would come ahead of a solid 3rd starter at RB???

2) QB is probably the next highest need (our league also awards all TDs -- passing, rec., rushing -- the same) -- I can play the WRs week to week and pick up some good value in the later rounds (especially knowing the guys in my league) at WR...

3) I'm in two SMDs on Ants know and Collins just slipped to round 7 (go figure...just when I think I 've figured it out) -- but I would probably target a Bulger/Collins in round 5...if they are gone, I'm thinking about Palmer (upside) and Brady/Delhomme (consistency) with a QB QB punch later in the draft

4) Even though I don't target specific players: I could imagine a draft going:

RB (Duece); RB (J.Jones); RB (CMart); WR (Burleson); WR (Boldin); WR (Coles) and then QB(Hassel/Brady/Palmer)...maybe followed by QB (Brady/Palmer/Plummer)...

5) When I look at this...maybe a WR in the 3rd is required...Burleson just doesn't feel like a #1...

Dang this fun...the draft can't come soon enough :D
