Pancake
This is a great article and very timely based on the some of the forum topics lately. I have been using a modified version of Reception Pionts that has worked great for 10 year. The end result is that the #11 best WR has similar points to the #15 best RB. This makes the draft much more interesting (read the article). We award 2 pts to the WR if they catch a minimum of 6 recptions in a game and then 1pt for each additional 2 recptions above 6 ( capped out at 5 pts). Additionally, we award 1 pt for average recption length over 10 yds per recption in a game (minimum 3 receptions) and then 1 additional pt each each addtional 5 yrd average). We also award 3 pts bonus to WR who achieve 100 yds in a game and 1 addtional pt 1 for every 50 addtional yds per game. I know it sounds very invovled but this is a proven method to equalize the positions somewhat (see Huddle Perfect Scoring System) we have similar involvled scoring for all positions and also allow a weekely flex postion which could include a QB. As the top 10 QBs score very similar or more as the top 10 RBs and the #11 through #20 QBs score more than the #11 through #20 RBs, its not such a slam dunk to wait on QBs like most other leagues. Although 8 of the frist 10 players are RBs the draft equalizes by the 3rd round as people are just scrambling to get the best available player. I wonder how that would affect those graphs from the article?
dfv87
we had a flex position that could include an extra QB but we took it out as it seemed unreal to have 2 qbs. Yeah I know "unreal" in Fantasy Football, but that just seemed wrong and we disallowed them as a flex player. But your system seems interesting. MikesVikes
I think that the receptions are very important in some internet games like Sportsbuff or some of the pick one from six games that I used to play. At the end of the season, there's a larger spread in points and not really that much change in everybody's roster. Often times the receptions points were the difference. You need an edge somewhere. True in a H2H league format that it really wouldn't matter as much.
