Photobiz2
Chargers | Chatman Waived Tue, 26 Jul 2005 13:47:22 -0700 The San Diego Chargers have announced the team has waived RB Jesse Chatman. ......He was a beast when he got the ball last year while relieving LT2.....I would think that somebody makes him an offer soon... rhippens
from chargers website: Smith also announced Tuesday morning that the Bolts have waived running back Jesse Chatman after the fourth-year veteran failed a team physical. “We’re going in another direction,” Smith said. “We’re pleased with the depth that we have at running back, and we just felt that it was time to move on.” Chatman was the Chargers’ second-leading rusher in 2004. He carried 65 times for 392 yards (6.0 avg.) and three touchdowns, but team officials were not happy with Chatman’s absence from Charger Park during the offseason. “Jesse’s lack of involvement in what we were doing here in the offseason led us to go in another direction,” Schottenheimer said. “His weight has been an issue as well as his not being here. I’ve talked to him at length, but we didn’t gain any ground.” Added Schottenheimer, “The policy is very simple: if you have an injury, you have to be here for rehabilitation and treatment. We had some difficulty with Jesse in that area. His weight has been an issue, and I’ve tried to work with him as best I could. He failed the physical.” Schottenheimer said that at this point, Michael Turner will be slotted behind LaDainian Tominlinson at the tailback position. Rookie Darren Sproles and fullback Andrew Pinnock are also expected to see time at the position. sounds like he had some problems remaining in shape and they didn't want to deal with it. with turner and sproles, i think they'll be fine for backups. Swampnuts
He was a big back, and I can't blame Schottenheimer if he had gained more weight. Definately expendable with Turner and Sproles on the roster.
muck
Sproles, apparently, looked phenomenal in mini-camp...hence the flexibility to play hardball w/ Chatman.
MikesVikes
It's been reported that the Vikings are interested in Chatman. I like this better than getting George or some other used-a-bit back into camp. From Star Tribune: The Vikings have expressed interest in fourth-year running back Jesse Chatman, who was released Tuesday by San Diego. Chatman was the Chargers' second-leading rusher last season, gaining 392 yards on 65 carries (6.0-yard average) with three touchdowns, but he was waived after failing a team physical. MikesVikes
Yeah, 'cuz the Vikes put the C in RBBC! 898672[/snapback] Mewelde Moore is a good back, but there's no way that Tice will rely on him if Bennett gets banged up. Moore took more time to heal after getting banged up a little last season than Tice was comfortable with. He lost confidence in him because of that. Adding Chatman to the mix would make the MIN RB sitch just that much more of a pain the the ass for FFL owners.

In fact he's the only back that Tice knows how he will be used. It will be short yardage work for him. Ciatrick Fason (not Moore) could be somebody in this league or he may not. The Vikes could use another body.
Outshined
I guess it wouldn't hurt to bring him into camp. They can always cut his fat ass if he doesn't want to get into shape.

My point is that in my opinion the Vikes always have too many backs to choose from from a Fantasy perspective, hence my statement that of course the Vikes would bring in Chatman, because "The Vikes put the "C" in "RBBC". I'm not debating the how good or bad these folks are, just how many. When Bennett gets hurt or misses time, and he will, having Chatman added to the mix, while perhaps making for good depth for the Vikings as a whole, only exacerbates the problem for FFL owners. I for one would already think twice before drafting Bennett, and if Chatman makes the roster, I will probably avoid the situation altogether. Mo is the only back that's not a mystery. He won't add to the confusion because his role is defined.

CaP'N GRuNGe
The Vikings don't need another back. They've got that Jedi Adimchinobe Echemandu.
