SpinalTapp
The Huddle has Palmer at #8 in its QB rankings. This is a pretty high ranking for a second year starter. Do you believe Palmer is a top 10 QB? What stats do you predict for this guy this year?
Roo
I honestly do. This offense should only keep getting better. This team is growing together and the trifecta of Rudi/Palmer/CJ should all feed off each other. It makes a big difference when you a feature RB and WR, and it should benefit Palmer. The one big problem is their schedule - it's probably one of the toughest I've seen just by eyeballing. Pittsburg twice, Baltimore twice, the Bills, Jacksonville. Hugh 0ne
I doubt it. I think he'll be improved, but improving over 2800 yards and 18 TD's won't make him top 8. I now he had a strong finish, and I know he only played 13 games, but still, I doubt it. My prediction for Palmer, 3100 yards, 20 TD's 22 INT's. Not top 10. yo mama
I've very skeptical about Palmer being top 10. I'm sure he'll play like it in some games, but at the end of the year, I have my doubts he'll even end up top 12. I'd be very, very hesitant to rely on him as my starting QB. I like the Bengals this year to finish 2nd in the division, but I'm pretty sure I can name 10 QBs I think will be better (or I'd rather have starting for my team). The Misfit
I don't think it's Huddle hype at all. Watching him play every week in his "rookie" year, you could see his steady progression as an NFL QB. The statistics bear it out: First seven games, 10 INTs, 5 TDs, 55% completions, 209 yards per game, 2-5 record. Next six games: 14 TDs, 8 INTs, 69% completions, 238 yards per game, 4-2. You can also look at what he did against divisional foes: Week 3 vs. the Ravens, at Cincinnati: 25-52-3-316, no TDs, Ravens win 23-9. Week 12 vs. Ravens, at Baltimore: 29-36-1-382, 3 TDs, all of them in the fourth quarter in a come-from-behind 27-26 win in a game with playoff implications. Week 5 vs. Cleveland: 20-36-1-148, 1 TD, Browns win 34-17. Week 11 vs. Cleveland: 22-29-3-251, 4 TDs, Bengals win 58-48. Week 4 vs. Steelers: 20-37-2-164, 1 TD, Steelers win 28-17. Week 10 vs. Steelers: 13-25-1-165, 2 TDs, Steelers win 19-14. Or, compare the first-half season stats against the second-half season stats using only the division opponent, against the same defenses ... First 3 games: 65-125, 52% completion, 628 yards, 2 TDs, 6 INTs, 0-3 Second 3 games: 64-90, 71% completion, 798 yards, 9 TDs, 5 INTs, 2-1 You can't just project Palmer's stats based on last year's stats as a whole. He was not at all the same QB when he was hurt in the Pats game in week 13 that he was at the start of the season.
wildbluefan
Actually, the Bengals schedule rates EASIER this year than last, and all the pieces are in place on offense for a great yaer, but , as usual with the Bengals is has the defense improved ? If not , the offense will be even better as it will have to score, playing from behind !!! Edited July 28, 2005 by wildbluefan
Piranha
I understand why he is ranked in the top 10. However, that being said, he's not in my top ten.

BS Miscreant
It's not just Huddle hype. I have seen him ranked as high as 9 and 10 in two other places. People are high on him due to his supposed "getting it" as the season wore on which make polk's comments quite pertinent here. Steelers and Ravens twice, that is bound to help his stats eh? 898424[/snapback] Weeks 3 & 4 versus Balt and Pitt TDs = 1, INTs = 5, AVG QB rating = 48 Weeks 11 & 13 versus Pitt and Balt TDs = 5, INTs = 2, AVG QB rating = 105 I'm not in love with him but I certainly understand the expectations. Palmer undoubtedly has upside galore. But little proven track record. I'd prefer to secure stable, above average production from the 7th through12th QB drafted, and Palmer doesn't fit the bill. Though, I'd happily take a gamble on Palmer as a #2 QB, if he were available.

I too would prefer someone more stable but if I had a team with loads of talent and Carson as my QB, I wouldn't complain totally. I think people who draft him as a 2nd QB will be getting a gem and might even spot start him. If I needed to, I would take a chance on him over a lot of people. SpinalTapp
I can aquire him as a keeper player. Here are my options: TEAM 1 Palmer (may or may not be starter) J.Walker Heap Ravens D TEAM 2 J.Walker Heap Staley/Suggs Ravens D Which team would you rather have? Team 1 with Palmer or Team 2? SpinalTapp
I wish. In our league, owners were only able to keep players drafted in the fourth round or later. So the usual suspects, like Manning, LT, S.Alex, etc. are still in the draft for this year. I have the best keeper WR in Walker....Unfortunately, I have no keeper RBs...by the way, the best keeper RBs were McGahee, J.Jones, K.Jones, L.Jordan, and D.Foster. Then you have the Bennett's, Suggs, Staley's. I am trying to create the best hand in a bad situation.

Having Staley on your roster already will allow you more drafting freedom, and you can probably acquire Palmer (or a better QB) later on, anyways. Keep Palmer and you're locking yourself into RB-RB with your first two picks, no matter what. I mean, you could still do that even if you do keep Staley (he's a great #3 RB, but borderline #2, after all). But with Staley on your roster you can just draft for value, rather than being locked into drafting specific positions with your first few picks. Clubfoothead
I'll take Boller and Collins over Palmer but rankings have to be somewhat based on potential. You won't win a league just using 2004 stats, I guess. Piranha summed it up for me.
bandwidth
I agree wioth Misfit. I saw him all last year and he went from douwnright depressing in pre-season to very impressive by the ned of the year. Next six games: 14 TDs, 8 INTs, 69% completions, 238 yards per game, 4-2. If you use those number for averages next season that is 3560 YDs and 35TDs. Unless someone can make a good case that Palmer and the Bengals in general are not getting better I do not see how you think he is going to regress. Both his stats and decision making were dramtically improved in less than 1 season.
