trrhyne
ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Washington Redskins have agreed to trade WR Rod Gardner to the Carolina Panthers for a draft choice. The deal is contingent upon Gardner passing a physical, which is scheduled for Thursday, July 28. With Smith, Colbert, Proehl, they did not have any size. Annihilator
Do you guys think this will affect S.Smith or Colberts time on the Field?? I have S.Smith and colbert in seprate leagues ..so i'm alittle worried about the signing?? what are you thougts about any movement these WR will make on your Cheatcheets?? Thanks
trrhyne
No, it will not affect Smith or Colbert. He will compete with Proehl for the 3rd receiver and maybe in some goalline formations. He may play 10-12 plays a game. It is also added depth in case someone gets hurt. I would hate to see it if they do need him to start. Brentastic
Wow! I think this is big news for the Cats. I know a lot of people are down on Gardner, questioning his work ethic and such... but I believe Gardner can still be a dominant WR in this league. It might not happen this year being in a new system and all, but I believe he will thrive with a good QB and team.
Chavez
It won't happen this year because Gardner will be #3 behind Smith and Colbert. Great opportunity for Gardner to start fresh, but fantasy impact for this year is nil IMO.
PantherDave
Nice pick-up, and another bullet in the depth department. We took care of the depth issues in the off-season, and now have some finally. Looking forward to the season, as I truly beleive we are a major contender for all the marbles.
CaptainHook
Good job Redskins! Now you have no big wide receiver's left. The 'skins are gonna suck. . .

CaptainHook
Well, they were gonna suck WITH Gardner anyways.... 898322 true. I just don't understand what they are doing with the WR position this year. Santana Moss and David Patten?

BS Miscreant
Whatever happened to Darnerian McCants? 898343 Washington Post 18 June 2005 Gibbs reiterated that wide receiver Darnerien McCants, who played sparingly last season because of his lack of special teams proficiency, may have to fill that role to crack the roster. McCants is now included in a few special teams packages, Gibbs said. Edited July 28, 2005 by BS Miscreant
BS Miscreant
Yeah, look at the massive production Gibbs has historically gotten from the TE position. 898355 Of the 18 total TD passes from Redskins QBs last year, rookie TE Chris Cooley caught 6. Of 37 recs, 9 were in the redzone and 6 of those were TDs.
Chavez
For the most part, I consider TE td totals to be undependable (unless a guy has a 2 or 3 year track record); if Cooley's tds dip, his 37-314 isn't going to leave you with much.

The last six games he had 24 recs and 3 of his TDs. I'd say they may have found something there, that's all.

Dunno that he'll be on my "target" list, but you've given me a reason to re-examine. Thanks.
skins
McCants and Taylor Jacobs are the only size with Cooley at H Back and Royal at TE. Moss and Patten should stretch the field and if.....IF.....Ramsey can make some plays, I expect the running game to be big. This is the make or break year for Ramsey, Gibbs, and the whole team. Should be interesting.

I didn't even know who the guy was until I read a couple of posts in which his name was dropped fairly randomly. This prompted me to look into him a bit and I saw that The Huddle rankings have him at #9 and at least three other publications/sites have him in the top 15. This kinda stuff tends to make him a bit more attractive as well: "When you are looking for core group people who you are going to build around long-term, you want guys who line up every down," Gibbs said. "That's really important as a coach for you to decide that this guy is going to line up every down and you can count on him." After Cooley's promising showing as a rookie, Gibbs said that he plans to incorporate him into the offense to a greater extent this season. "If you get the ball to Chris, he really runs well after the catch," Gibbs added. "We need to do a better job of getting more balls to him." Goopster24
If Gardner is given the chance, he could post better numbers than Steve Smith. Gardner has a lot of talent and I think a new change of scenery was necessary. I agree with everyone saying he won't do that much this year, but down the line this is a huge win for the Panthers. They are gonna be studs.
migarvin
Rod Gardner has a lot of talent. Delhomme is a much better qb than Ramsey is right now. Gardner had to suffer through the Spurrier experiment. He will excel in carolina maybe even this year. Colbert can be effective in the slot
