Alexander's playing time

Anyone else fear Holmgren will dick with his carries and time based off of the new contract, the way he missed the rushing title and the backlash of Alexander's comments. Now that his contract is done and he will report to camp, I want to take him 1.1 provided I'm confident Holmgren won't screw around.

I don't know anymore than you do, but I can't think of why the coaching staff would do anything like that. The teams wants wins, and Alexander and rushing game will likely be the backbone of the offense. And it isn't like the 'Hawks have a stellar #2 RB that they want to work into the mix, a la McGahee last year.

Figuring they'll be in playoff contention, that wouldn't make much sense.

Well the defense will have to play better for that to happen and a couple of WRs need to step up as well. If they fall out of contention then who knows? The Hawks may want to see what they have in Morris and Carter.

No, No, No. Holmgren isn't that petty. You're confusing him with someone like Parcells or Shanahanigans.

True, but that's nothing different from last year's status when they made the playoffs, and as others have stated here, the whole division minus the naked parade marchers, seems a average. They'll contend, but just as they contended last year.

Carter... yes, I agree, they could have something with this kid.

Unless Holmgren plans on coaching 99% different than last year, I would say it's a toss up. I remember watching a game last year (can't remember which one) where the Hawks were down (not by a ton) but he kept having Hass throw the ball when all that was happening was either ...

A. - WR's drop the passes

B. - DB's hold on to the passes

It wasn't like there was not time left in the game and Holmgren just wasn't thinking to bright.

I don't see all their games, but that one certainly did not impress me. When you have a running threat and you have time in the game and you are not in a shoot out ... you use him. Ain't too hard to figure out.

I don't think that Holmgren will fool around with Shaun Alexander's carries. He knows that the division is quite winnable, but that if he slacks off the Rams and Cards have enough firepower to pass him up. Don't forget, that Holmgren too is on the hot seat a bit. People are not really pleased with the job he has done in Seattle to date.

So expect Alexander to have pretty much the same chances he had last year.

Alexander Better get at least 20 carries every game he plays.

Alexander had 8 games last year with less than 20 carries. One game he was somewhat injured if I remember correctly. The others he just simply didn't get the ball as much. Including their first game against the Cards where he only had 12 carries ... even though he averaged 5.4 ypc ... great coaching move there.

Anyway, I think when Holmgren gets the feeling the other team is getting an advantage he wants to do something offensively and quick, and that seems to unfortunately put the screws to SA in some situations.
