Ok, someone is full of sh*t about Mike Vick

From Len's Atlanta Camp Observations:

But the point of making training camp observations is to allow readers to see practice through ESPN.com's eyes. And these eyes saw a lot of poor throws. Vick was, in a word, brutal at times. And that might not even accurately describe his afternoon. He was too high. He was too low. He was long and he was short. Vick looked anything but ready to ratchet up his completion percentage to the levels that typically accompany a West Coast-style passing design. His body language belied his frustration. At one point, tight end and favorite target Alge Crumpler, following one particularly scattershot effort, returned to the huddle and placed his arm around Vick's shoulders.

But even more disappointing than his performance in throwing the ball was Vick's slipshod footwork on too many occasions. Hard to imagine, we agree, for a player so agile and nifty, but the guy looked like he had two left feet at times. Vick still tries, or at least he did Monday, to do too much just with his arm. You generate velocity and even accuracy, from the feet up. But Vick rarely squared up, didn't get his feet set, had too many skewed release points. There is also a kind of "jump" in Vick's drop-and-plant, one that, mechanically, forces him to divert his eyes.

Here's hoping that, as Vick strives to move forward as a passer, Monday's first impressions are not lasting ones.

And from Peter's Atlanta Camp Observations:

5. I think one of the great things about watching this team practice is the beauty of the ball that Mike Vick throws. Gorgeous pass after gorgeous pass.

In the words of some dude, that don't jive. I tend to belive Len. Outside of ProFootballTalk.com's author, he seems to be the most objective and straight-forward NFL writer that I read; Tip Sheet is always filled with good info. Peter King is always writing about Starbucks and some fuc*ing girls softball game.

The way I see it, doesn't look like Mike's come very far since last year...

Edit to add: And I realize this is a subjective topic, but the two accounts couldn't be more polar.

They both could be completely right, having watched different parts of practice or different days.

Mike Vick is nothing if not inconsistent.

When he's on he throws a gorgeous pass.  When he isn't, he sucks.

Sure, and there's probably some hyperbole on both ends, but that's some kind of inconsistent. Hard to believe an NFL starter is THAT streaky, but maybe.

I always used to read Peter Kings articles - especially his Monday Morning QB, but they are now so filled with all the little frustrations and pet peeves of his poor stressfull and hectic day that I can't stomach them anymore. You have to read so much crap to get to the relevant NFL info, it hardly seems worth it. And please spare me the weekly updates of your daughters soccer, softball, or what ever the hell she's playing at the time, games. :D

Yes, I had heard that Vick looked just awful the first day, but much better the second day, and that was what HC Mora said (sorry no link, but I did read this).

Pretty much what I've heard from a buddy in Atlanta who's gone to all but one of the Falcons' morning sessions. That he's looked better every day since opening day.

I actually enjoy all the other stuff more than his football stuff.

Well, let's give Mike Vick a couple more weeks in camp before we start drawing real conclusions about this year. However, I will say that I think that Vick needs a real quarterback guru if he is to improve. In the past, he has suffered from "happy feet" and he uses his arm strength to compensate and try to force in throws that other more fundamentally sound QBs would not try.

I think I read this same write up about Favre 10 years ago.

I haven't read any of his articles, but I enjoy his input on Inside the NFL. The times I've watched him on there, he's been informative and knows his stuff.

:D Big Score, I've read your posts in the past, and they have been coherent and logical. Because of this, I will be nice, and chalk up this comparison to one too many brews.
