raoul duke
my team blows, obviously, or i wouldn't have this pick. in a 12-team keeper league with 2-keepers per in a typical yahoo H2H scoring system. i have edge and antonio gates. the best overall players available with the #1 pick are corey dillon, julius and kevin jones, daunte culpepper, with every good RB, the top 7 WR, and peyton all kept. with 23 picks following me, i don't see how i can take culpepper even though his total points seems worth it. point differential last year between LT (#1) and, say Warrick Dunn (#17), = 105 point differential between Culpepper (#2) and Trent Green (#5) = 110 i'm fairly confident that Culpepper, McNabb, and Favre (lots of pack fans) will go in the picks ahead of me. so do i gamble that culpepper will continue even without moss, or do i go with kevin jones with the hopes of trading edge for younger talent if my team falls out of contention? Clubfoothead
I'd take Dillon
Fenokee
With only 2 keepers, I wouldnt read to deep into the "youth versus now" scenario. For your first pick, you take the best value as you see it. If it was me, I would be looking at the RB availability list to make that selection.
Haskel
How long can you keep players? If only a year I'd go Dillon, no question...if you're talking long-term, I'd lean towards JJ or KJ.
rhippens
i would go with whatever jones is higher in your running back rankings
Dirty Weasel
I think the QB point differential was skewed quite a bit by Peyton and Daunte last year. They both had fantasy seasons. Post the rest of your current team for us. Maybe you have a different keeper besides Gates. I know he is a monster TE, but as yours is a 2-man keeper league, your draft starts in the 3rd round. You are basically drafting Gates with your 2nd round pick. Another option is to trade Gates before you draft. Look to teams that have 3 monster players, particularly at RB. They would have no problem trading Gates for one of them. That would make your 2 keepers Edge and another great RB. Good luck
Fenokee
Dirty Problem with an owner having 3 studs and trading for Gates (which is a good thought btw) puts that owner in the same boat. Remember, only 2 keepers, so the owner with 3 studs, (Gates being one of them now) has to drop one of his other 2 studs to pare down to the two-player keeper rule. He said that Dillon, KJ, and JJ would be in the draft, so that means that those guys are gonna be dropped. Why not trade Gates to one of those owners before they drop them? Would be sitting pretty with Edge and one of those guys as his 2 starting RB's. Then he could pick up another of those RB's with the 1st pick and have 3 great RB's to start his team with. Or take the best available WR, or Gates, or Culpepper. More options if he trades before the draft.
Fenokee
Something for nothing? As an owner, I wouldnt do it
Dirty Weasel
Something for nothing? As an owner, I wouldnt do it 902224 It's in the best interest of top teams to help out the bottom teams. And, as he said, those 3 RB's are going to be dropped anyways. The people dropping them don't want the top teams getting their hands on them. It's worth a shot asking. Good luck 902194 yeah, i am taking gates #2, but my WR options were Boldin and Roy Williams. RB was chris brown and some scrubs. i figured, best to keep a scoring TE than a WR i can possibly get with my 4th or 5th pick. plus with everyone from moss down to wayne kept, gates could possibly score like a wideout. i can't trade gates as the person said below: the other guy would have to keep him. plus there are some guys assed out like me who had to keep guys they'd prefer to let go. i really don't expect to contend this year because 1st pick really screws you for getting 2 good quality picks. with kevin jones, gates and edge, i would have some trade bait for later in the year. i appreciate everyone's comments about not buying into Daunte, though. although we all laughed at the guy who took peyton with the first pick. he lost the championship. It's a keep 2 league and your starting off with a top 5 RB and a top 2 TE. If it was a dynasty or a keep 5 then I could understand but what the hell? Get the hell up off the floor you whiner. If your three players after the first round are Edge, KJ and Gates I think you're in fine shape. Edge is a definite 1st rounder. KJ is a late 1st early 2nd rounder and he may end up top 10. Gates is a top 2 TE and is going in the 3rd in many drafts. I would be far from pessimistic about my chances with those guys. And quit talking about planning for the future. It's a keep 2 league. It's nearly impossible to play for the future. Do what you're doing. You'll be fine.
