Violence in US High Schools

A great topic for conversation but really has no place in the Sean Taylor tribute thread.

http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5329a1.htm

The CDC has compile statistics on school violence from 1991 to 2003. At the bottom of that page you see a nice chart of data.

What I found alarming...

In 2003 9.2% of students surveyed reported being threatened or injured with a weapon (e.g., a gun, knife, or club) on school property.

6.5% of females and 11.6% of males. 7.8% of Whites, 10.9% of Blacks and 9.4% of Hispanics. 12.1% of 9th graders, 9.2% of 10th graders, 7.3% of 11th graders and 6.3% of 12th graders.

The decline in violence as the grade increases could be related to the drop out rate of the student most likely to be violent. IMHO
